PJ: 11/8/2003: Dewittville: Alice M. Francis, 53, of 6361 Meadows road, died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. 2003, in her home.
She was born March 16, 1950, in Westfield, the daughter of the late ernest R. and Helen Furlow Smith.
She was a 1968 graduate of Mayville Central School and a 1972 graduate of the State College at Fredonia. She had been employed as a teaching assistant by Chautauqua Lake Central School. In earlier years, she was employed by Shear's Store in Mayville for many years, and by Farr Building Supply in Westfield. She was a member of the Dewittville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and its Women's Ministry.
She was a Mom most and for most. She was also a devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend. She loved strawberries, lilacs, antiquing and the fall season. She was a people person, and she made the best spaghetti.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel L. Francis, whom she married May 14, 1983, in Dewittville; a daughter, Susan A. Francis at home; a son, Furlow Francis at home; six sisters: Kathleen Turpin of Decatur, Tenn., Esther Lawson of Mayville, Mary Smith and Ruth A. Frudd, both of Westfield, Susan Hindman of Dewittville, and Peggy Kelwaski of Sherman; five brothers: Allen Smith of Jamestown, Charles Smith of Westfield, Herbert and Peter Smith, both of Mayville, and Larry Smith of Sherman; and a foster brother, Chris Bemis of Brocton.
Besides her father who died Aug. 17, 1990, and her mother who died May 13, 1999, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Smith, who died Dec. 9, 2000.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Dewittville. Andrew Frudd, her nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Dewittville Cemetery.
