The new search engine really DOES NOT let one search for an exact match anymore.
Whereas one USED TO BE ABLE to search a particular census year in a particular state & county for all of a certain spelling of a surname and ONLY get hits as requested for that spelling in that location, one now gets metaphone results for the entire state. (if you're lucky, that's all you get......)
Another example is "Indiana Marriage Records 1845-1920", whereas I USED TO BE ABLE to search for a particular surname in a particular county, I again get metaphone results for the entire state.
There is no EXACT MATCH searching even if it is selected in the Advanced Search Options. The more information given helps to narrow the results down some, but this only helps if one knows something about the individual in the first place.
Good grief, when we only want to search a mole hill & they've given us a mountain to climb!
My Family & Local History subscription through Genealogy.com expires in Sept., I'd already notified them not to renew because it APPEARED that ancestry.com's search feature was better than Genealogy.com's & I was going to subscribe to ancestry's in Sept. Well, looks like genealogy.com's limited search is better that what ancestry's has become. Guess I'll be rethinking this decision in the next few weeks.
