Albert H. Firster, 77, of 4422 Morris Road, died Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) in St. Vincent’s Health Care Center, Erie. He was born July 1, 1924, in Corry, the son of the late Henry W. and Catherine Janosec Firster. He was a 1942 graduate of Corry High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from Feb. 3, 1943, to Dec. 7, 1945m in the Medical Detachment, 397th (AAA) AWBN, training at Fort Sheridan, Ill., and Long Island Airfields, and serving in Glasgow, Scotland, England, the Normandy invasion landing at Omaha Beach, Northern France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He joined the Pennsylvania National Guard June 15, 1948, and was federalized into active duty Aug. 20, 1950, and actively served until September 1951. He is survived by a son, Albert Firster Jr. of Sherman; two daughters: Janet Elder of Pittsburgh and Kim Firster of Sherman; seven grandchildren: four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Violet Allen of Wesleyville, Pa., and Leona Proctor of Titusville, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Chamberlain Firster; a daughter, Sharon Baideme; two sisters: Margaret Goodwill and Mary Firster; and three brothers: Charles, Paul and Donald Firster. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery.
