I recieved this story from Gordon in Kansas City, MO. He was nice enough to find it for me and share it with me.
THOMPSON RECORD CASE:
The circut clerk and recorder at the time of the couthouse fire(Thompson) was defeated in the 1902 election but refused to turn over transcribed books of records to the county because he and his assistants had not been paid for their labor.
On the same night (January 5th 1903) Mr Thompson secretly entered the office of the circut clerk and recorder, having retained one of the keys, and started to take therefrom the disputed records. Part of the books had been removed and stored in the loft of Treasure Spencers office, then he was discovered by Night watchman George Dull, who intercepted him and returned the books to the book vaults. Thompson was arrested and the greatest political sensation in the history of Mercer County was at its height.
If anyone knows anything about this article or has any information on the George Dull mentioned I would love to hear more. He was an ancester and I am trying to figure out if it is my great Grandfather or my great grandfathers nephew the son of James W Dull.
Thank you
Paula
