Hi all, I am puzzled by contradictory evidence about my late grandfather Simon Erdman's immigration to the U.S. in the 1920s. A search of the Ellis Island database shows that he arrived in 1922 on a ship called the Minnekahda. However, among his things, I found a passenger list for a 1923 sailing of a ship called the Ausonia, and his name (S. Erdmann, and there were no other Erdmans in the family emigrating) is on the list; furthermore, I found 5-6 of the daily menus handed out to passengers on that sailing of the Ausonia. Perhaps those of you who have more experience with ship records than I can help me resolve this. Is it possible the Ellis Island record is wrong? Could he appear on the Minnekahda manifest if he didn't actually sail on that ship? Which source is more likely to be wrong? Thanks! My personal e-mail is endora257@aol.com if you are willing to respond there. - Sara Erdman
