I have a relative who lived in Douglassville, PA who become a master stonemason. Jacob Kerlin (1776-1857) became a stonemason and is supposed to have established a distinctive "herringbone" style of masonry that exists on at least 7 extant structures in Berks County. The 1801 Chapel of St. Gabriel's Church is attributed to Jacob Kerlin. His father, John Kerlin, Jr., was a gun manufacturer and farmer, not a stonemason. Can anyone assist with other ancestors who may have been stonemasons in Berks County in the period 1796 - 1850s? Any help appreciated.
