Hello,

I am also researching Ciaccia's from around Bari, Italy. My gr. grandfather and grandfather were from Montalbano, Brindisi- same general vicinity.
My Gr. grandfather was Michele Ciaccia m. Faustina Filletti and my Grandfather was Giovanni Ciaccia m. Maria C. Pagano. They settled in R.I. about 1910. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Domenick,

We corresponded a while back and were trying to figure out if there was any relationship between your Ciaccia family from bari and my Ciaccia family from Bari.
Today I was told by one of the older Ciaccia's in my family (he's 84) that my great grandfather, Michele Ciaccia who was from Montalbano, Province of Bari, had a brother Fillipo Ciaccia who had a wife named Concetta. He was killed in an accident in a machine shop at Brown Sharpe in R.I. and the family went back to NY around Brooklyn or Queens. he had 3 sons and a daughter. Their names were Thomas, Phillip and Antonio. He also had a daughter named Lisa. I would imagine their given names were Tomasso, Fillipo, Antonio and Lucia Ciaccia. My cousin said that he had visited them when he was a young man. He was born in 1916 so I would imagine he was there around 1930 or so.
Thomas and Phillip owned a Millinery business, Antonio owned a necktie business and Lisa had a grocery store there according to my cousin.
does any of these names fit into your family at all?? I would imagine that all of these children were born in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

I was surprised to see this name on the forum. I've hit a dead end in my research. I'm trying to find any info on my greatgrandmother, Domenica (Ciaccia) Fornaro. She was probably born in the 1870's or 1880's in Italy (Bari rings a bell, but I can't be sure). She died in the early 1900's (after 1912, as that is when she had my grandfather, Cosmio). She was married to Michael Fornaro. Their children were Cosmio (8/8/1912-9/29/1991), Antoinette, Michael, John, Salvador, and Josephine. I know that she died when my grandfather was very young, probably in the late 1910's or early 1920's.
Any info about her parents or siblings would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Vicki Hunter

Just posting an update to my own post. I found the family on the 1920 census.
My great grandfather was Michele(Michael) Fornaro. According to his age on the census, he was born in 1885/56 somewhere in Italy. He came to the US in 1906, and was naturalizes in 1913. He married Domenica Ciaccia, sometime prior the 1908/09. Their children were Josephina(Josephine) b.1908/09, Donetta(Antoinette) b.1910/11, Casemino (Cosmio) b.8 Aug 1912 (my grandfather), Salvatore(Salvador) b.1913/14, Michele(Michael) b.1916, and Gennarino(John) b.1917. Domenica died sometime between Dec. 1917 and Dec. 1919, as she is not on the 1920 census. Michael is shown with his new wife, Marie, his children and her children, and had not yet had any together.
I am interested in the names of Domenica's parents and siblings. If anyone has this info, let me know. I'll gladly share any info I have if it'll help with your research.
Thanks in advance for any help.
