Surnames: Zycha or Matoska
My great grandmother was Rozalie Zycha. Her daughters were Olga Matoska, Celestine "Sally" Matoska, and Albeana Zycha. They lived in Galveston, Houston, and Dallas, Texas as far as I know. I am looking for other Zycha's or Matoska's in the Texas area.

Hi,

I have a large number of relatives called Zycha. My mother's maiden name is Zycha, and my grandfather was an electrical engineer called Walter Zycha. He grew up in Prague, and moved to Graz, Austria. My mother was born in Rastatt, Austria, in 1948. As far as I know he had 7 children, and three of them are in Germany and a very large number of Zychas are in Austria.

None of them are in Texas, but I thought you might still be interested. We may be related!

With kind regards,
Nicolai Czempin

Hello!

I was so happy to hear from some about the last name Zycha. We don't know much about my greatgrandmother's family, because she was sent from Czechloslovakia when she was 13 by her family. She returned and married someone named Mataska, who was killed, and then a musican named Zycha. Thank you for responding!

Hello,

I currently live in VA, but was born in Houston, TX. My father is a Zycha and was born in Taylor, TX. His Father also was born there in 1905 and my great Grandfather was born in Moravia. He came to America in 1889 at 15 yrs old. My father's family lived in Crosby, TX for many years.

I am haphazardly working on a family tree and so is my father and sister. Please feel free to e-mail me so we can talk more.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Zycha

Nicolai,

I am Ginger Zycha living in Houston, Texas. Our Zycha family came to Taylor, Texas in 1889 from a town called Pozdichov, Moravia which was a part of Austria at that time period. My great-grandfather Jan Zycha arrived with his parents Jan and Terezye and his two sisters, Frances and Maria. Jan Zycha (b.1874) had Frank Zycha (b. 1905), my grandfather. Frank Zycha had my father also named Frank Zycha in 1929.
It was interesting reading your message about your Zycha relatives. We may be distantly related. I have been to Austria 10 years ago but did not know Zycha's were living there. Austria was very beautiful country!

Sincerely, Ginger Zycha

I contacted some family members, and I got somemore info on Zychas: Here's a direct line of my ancestors on the Zycha side (in reverse chronological order):

Hildegund Zycha, *1948 Rastatt (Austria)
Walter Zycha, Diplom-Ingenieur, *1902 Vienna +1971 Mühldorf (Germany)
Adolf Zycha, Prof. jur., *1871 Vienna, +1948 Bonn
Josef (Joseph) Zycha, Gymnasialdirektor, k.k. Regierungsrat,*1843 Lipowa/Lipova (Moravia), +1918 Vienna
Johann (Jan) Zicha, Viertler, *1811 Lipova (Moravia) +?
Franz Zicha, Viertler, *1787 Lipova (Moravia), +?
Johann (Jan?) Zicha, Viertler, Lipova (Moravia) +?

So it seems that your Jan Zycha *1874 is either a son of Josef or some (other) grandson of Jan Zicha.
