Martha Ernestine Carter, 89, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; formerly of Hopewell, Ohio died at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1919, in Zanesville, Ohio. She graduated from Hopewell High School in 1937. She retired from Essex Wire and then worked as a home health care worker. She was an antique collector, enjoyed flowers and birds, belonged to the Mount Vernon Coin Club, and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
She is survived by a brother, George Zwahlen; caring family of Ron and Ginny Zwahlen, Heidi and Mike Secoy, Wendy and Kevin Eby; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Virginia and Ronald Linson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Ernest Zwahlen Sr.; one brother, Ernest Zwahlen Jr.; one sister, Marguerite Murphy; and one daughter, Regina Boyd.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 9, 2008 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone Drive, White Cottage, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Martha Gross officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell, Muskingum county, Ohio.
