I am researching my husband's family. We have traced them to Boltigen, Bern, Switzerland. His great grandfather was Samuel Zwahlen b 1-23-1842 in Boltigen and married Anna Scheuren b 2-15-1846. Samuel's parents were Johannes Zwahlen and Magdalena Hehlen. Her parents were Peter Scheuren and Anna Dingler. I don't know any of the parents birthdates. Anna and Samuel were both born in Boltigen.

They had 8 children, three of which were born in Switzerland also. Those three were, Magdalena Mary b 1871, Samuel (my husband's grandfather)b 1875 and Albert b 1877. They also had Ida Eva b 1880 in Alliance, Ohio, Clara Books b 1883 in Canton, Ohio, and Sophia b 1886, John F. b 1889 and Anna b 1892 all in the Ottenheim community in Lincoln Co. Kentucky, which is where they eventually settled and where my husband's family still lives. If anyone has any connections to these folks I would love to hear from you. Thanks. :o)

I think I'm close, if not directly connected. My mother is Josefine Emma Zwahlen, from Grenchen, Switzerland. She had a progenitor named Johannes Zwahlen, born 25 OCT 1761 in Gambach, Bern, SWITZERLAND, and married to Anna Pauli. They had 2 children: Christian Zwahlen (born: 26 MAY 1799 in Gambach, Bern, SWITZERLAND), my progenitor; and his brother Johannes Zwahlen, about whom we have no information other than his name.

Could this be the same person? Write me at Ben@deHoyos.com and in the meantime, I'll contact my mother to see if she has any additional information.

Sophia Zwahlen was my grandmother. She married Alfred Kocher and had 6 children by him. They lived in Louisville, kentucky. Three of the children survived to be adults, Lolly, Mildred and Carroll who went by the name of Pat. Alfred Kocher died in 1919 of the flu and Sophia then married a man by the last name of Basham. If you know of any family still living around the Louisville area, I would love to hear from them. I am pat's daughter Marguerite Elizabeth (Kocher) King.

My great grandfather was Johannes Zwahlen born in 1819. After he and my great grandmother were married in 1853 they lived in Wahlern which is south of Berne. I don't know whether that is where he was from, however. May be some relative? My e-mail is OLHLCH@AOL.com

My name is Tracy Hubbard. I live in Lincoln County, KY. My grandmother, Lena Zwahlen Doss, is the daughter of John F. Zwahlen.

I grew up in Otteheim, and my dad and grandmother still lives there.

I am now trying to trace the Zwahlens. This is how I found your message.

My grandmother just told me that some of the Zwahlens are buried at the Catholic Church Cemetary in Ottenheim. I am planning on going to the cemetary this weekend.

I love to share information with you. If you would like, you can email me.

Thanks,
Tracy Hubbard

I would be delighted to help trace your family. I have a lot of the Zwahlen family in my files. My family came to America from Switzerland about 1735 and settled in Pennsylvania. The spelling was changed many times, but Swalley is derived from Zwahlen.

Hello,
I wanted to ask if the Samuel Zwahlen you are referring to is Samuel Heinrick Zwahlen. He is my great grandfather. His son Samuel Zwahlen born in Castle Dale Utah was my grandfather. I was wondering if you had any information on Atlanta Berg, my great grandmother, Samuel Heinrick Zwahlen's wife and her family. I am new to this whole thing but if there is anything you are looking for I might be able to help you out. Thanks.

Mary,

My name is Mike Basham; my grandmother was Sophia Basham (Zwahlen). Her daughter passed away back in 2005, and I was fortunate enough to receive a box of photographs. One of those photographs has puzzled me for quite some time. After scrutizing the limited information on the photos, I discovered the name Ida. One photo shows my grandmother and Ida together. Could they be sisters? When I saw your message with all of Samuel Zwahlen's children with birthyears, I decided to contact you to inquire further.

I hope you are still available for information.

Mike

Hello, sorry for answering so late - we are doing some remodeling in our house - our house looks like a construction site - its a mess....

I have the contact/mailing address and email address for the Vital Statistics Office in Matten where all the Matten families come from. They seem pretty friendly and helpful. They do speak English!

I will try to help any others looking for relatives or ancestors from Matten/Interlaken/Switzerland the best I can. However, privacy laws don't allow me to contact them for you - that is what they told me. YOU must contact them directly yourself.

Anyone can contact me at my private email: ctschiem@msn.com

Blessings and Good Luck in your search.... who searches - finds.....
