Zube French/Coal Mine

This is very odd. I vaguely remember my grandfather, Edward Albert Zube, saying that his grandparents came to U.S. to get away from the constant French and Prussian fighting and away from the coal mines!! I had basically discounted this information because I am fairly certain I have located the source of my Zube lineage and it was not on the French and German borderlands that had so much fighting. However, I wonder if we could conceivably be talking about the same line of Zube?? I am fairly certain all Texas Zubes are related to my grandfather's line. Also, I am positive that my Zube line was indeed Prussian (a) they listed Prussia as their country of origin on their naturalization application (b) they immigrated to Texas with the 1847 Fisher-Miller Colony from Germany (c) they settled in the German community near Hockley, Texas along with other German families and (d) my grandfather still spoke relatively fluent German. But the German/French connection is intriguing.

My great uncles name was Al Zube from Hockley Texas. I am not sure if we are related or not. My great grandfathers name was Theodore Frederick Zube. There is a park in Hockley named after him. Uncle Al married a lady named Betty. Please let me know if you are related or if you think you might be. I am just getting started again with research after many years of raising my children. Thanks Ann Casey Gilmore .

My grandfather August Haselmire was a brother to Veronica (Haselmire) Zube, the wife of Theodore Zube. This would make Al Zube of Hockley Texas my second cousin. I was fortunate to meet Al in 1980 in Houston. I don't have much information about my grandparents but my grandmother's maiden name was Matilda(sp)Zube. I'm not sure how she fits into the Zube family. My grandparents moved to Canada in the early 1900's. I have a partial family tree I would be glad to share

If you are still researching the Zube line, I'd like to hear from you. I've got some new info and I also think it's possible I know your Matilda Zube. Could she be the Matilda Zube, 1880 Harris county, Texas census, daughter of John and Henrietta (Butzke) Zube? Matilda is age 3 on this census. And I would be very interested in your partial lineage information.

A great grandfather of some was a saddle maker for the Czar and fled when the Heugonots moved in. This is the story of a cousin. The term Prussians was used to, but I remember few details as her father, Lloyd Zube had just died and my father, his cousin was terminally ill at the time. -The family August Zube whom married a woman from Berlin. The saddle maker lived in the Alsace-Lorraine region which follows this thread.

My grreat-grandmother and father both spoke German despite the are to be from the Alsace-Lorraine region. When I visit the area, I am seen as a local by "looks" and am often approached by locals.

Alsace-Lorraine is a region that was French for a while, then German. This was a back and forth thing throughout history.
