hello,

it is nice to hear from u. My / our family still lives in tamaqua today. I am the only family member that i know of that lives away from the east coast. I understand that there are a few different ways to spell our last name? Are u in contact with any of our relatives in tamaqua? From george uzuipuis there were 7 or 8 brothers born there, and most still live there. My grandfather was the oldest and he moved away in the late 1930's early 40's to play football at saint mary's college. that's how i / my side of the family came to live out here.

i have to go back to work ...

write back,

jason

Hi,
I just thought I'd get in touch as my husbands mother was of Lithuanian origin and was born Veronica Uzupa in Leicester,England. Her father, Joseph Uzupis moved from Lithuania to London,England in 1895, and was from the Suwalki area(now in Poland I believe). I have just started researching this line. Joseph seems to have changed his name to Uzupa sometime around 1920, I haven't been able to find him on the British 1901 census yet, although I know his address in 1898(when he married) and in 1906 were possibly the same.We don't know if he moved here with any family.
Anyway, I'll be happy to hear from any other Uzupis descendents
Ann-Marie

Hi Ann-Marie,

I've been looking into my family tree for a while but never got anywhere, but I just found a new site and found 6 names spelt the same way as mine. Your husband's mum is one of them. I'm also from Leicester, like my dad. His dad was called John but I can't find either my dad's records or my granddad's. I just asked him about the names I found and he remembers an auntie Veronica. He thinks her daughters are called Alexa and Julie? But he can't be certain and he doesnt remember a son. A lady contacted him once but he never heard from her again. Is there any information you can give me? Dad said our surname was spelt differently but it got changed when the family came to England. I'd love to know where we come from, I have a brother but know no one else from the Uzupa/Uzupis side.

Hope to hear from you soon

Lauren

Lauren,

My name is George Uzupis. My father was, Francis Uzupis, son of Jurgis Uzupis and Mary Seigeritis. My father was born In Girardville, PA. His brothers were Sam, Vincent, and Leo. All have passed over the years leaving quite a few children now in their 50's and 60's raising families throughout the United States.

You don't give your age or location but it would be neat to find out if you are part of our family.

Regards,

George

Hi Lauren,
My Mum is Julia (Julie). I'm assuming your grandfather was born 1918 in Leics? There were actually 13 Uzupa/ Uzupis children in total, the oldest born 1900 and the youngest 1921 (who was Veronica, my grandmother). Four of the children died when young and one died as a young adult.
I know your reply to Ann-Marie (who is my aunt) was a while ago now so don't know if this is still relevant or if she replied to you with all of this info att he time, but thought I would reply just in case.

Hello. I stumbled.upon this as i am checking out my original family name of Uzupa. I love in Leicester (u.k) and my grandmother and her brothers and sisters were all original Uzupa but they married into the english side and most had english married names. As i remember they all had english nicknames for christian names. My grandmother named herself "Annie" & i remember her brother called himself "Bill" and a sister called herself "Kathleen". There is a large plot of Uzupa members in Gilroes Cemetry Leicester and i do remember conversations about an "aunty Veronica" but as i was around 7-10 yrs of age at the time it is getting rather vague now. But i am delighted to have found this thread. Thank you. Darryl
