COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Helen Zubatkin, 78, of Cooper Lane Apartments, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at home.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1920, in Brooklyn, a daughter of Jacob and Bertha (Karp) Schwartz.
She married Julius Zubatkin on March 8, 1948, in Brooklyn. Mr. Zubatkin died on June 4, 1990.
A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, Helen relocated to Cooperstown six years ago to be near her daughters. She enjoyed going to the Cooperstown Senior Citizens' lunch site at Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown and served as secretary to this organization. Helen was of the Jewish faith and was very devoted to her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol and Bruce Bennett of Hartwick and Linda Zubatkin of Milford; one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Calixta Zubatkin of Brooklyn; two grandsons, Justin and Jacob Bennett; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandsons; one sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Herbie Sobrane of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Florida, Nevada and New York.
A Jewish funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at the Kirschenbaum Bros. Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Burial will follow at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing.
Helen's family will be sitting shiva on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the home of Carol and Bruce Bennett, 210 Christian Hill Road in Hartwick.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown with the Very Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
