Antoni's parents were Stanislaus Gawel and Hegwig Gil the daughter of Lawrence Gil and Marianna Balon (or Stanislaus Gil and Sophie Niezgoda). Stanislaw was born in 1818 to Sebastian Gawel and Catherine Sarama. Widelka was hit by various epidemics such as smallpox and cholera in the 1800s. This coupled with a high rate of deaths during or after childbirth results in multiple marriages. Stanislaw was the widower of Catherine Frac at the time of his marriage to Hedwig Gil. Her parentage varies based on whether you read a birth record or her marriage record. The records often contain suspected or confirmed errors. Record keeping in Widelka started in 1783 under the Austrian Empire and the format of records changed over time so it is not always possible to know if you have a right answer! Stan Smyrski is working on putting the Widelka records on line www.smyrski.us as his wife's line is from there.
