I'm a Zryd, my father comes from Adelboden in Switzerland, so his parents. I know from letters to my grandmother, that some brothers of her husband, Samuel Zryd went to America.
The name Zriz in 1558, Zryd in 1561 then again Z Ried in 1696 become Zryd. Abraham - 1783-1877-. There is another Zryd who comes from Brienz, which is also in the "canton Bern). I know from letters left from my grandmother, that some brothers Zryd went to Canada and USA in the early 20th. century. If this was some of your family, please do contact me.

Trudy,
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you...it is possible we are related. My great grandfather was named Joseph, born in Bern. Some of his children were born in Ontario Canada so I believe they migrated from Canada to the upper peninsula of Michigan. I know one of the brother's name was Oscar and that he stayed in Canada and became mayor of a small town. A lot of my parents records are packed away and I am in the middle of retriving them so I will try to get more info to you. Good luck in your search.

Trudy,
My grandfather was one of five brothers who lived in the Marquette, Mi. area. I believe their father worked on the railroad that connected Marquette and Chicago. My grandfather work in the tool & die trade and moved to Detroit in the 1920s-30s. My father was named after his uncle Bob who played baseball in the UP. Friends of ours were married in Escanaba, Mi. by a Monsiegner Zryd. An uncle of my dad was in business in Detroit and had changed his name to Fredrickson. His daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Hassenger, a retired school teacher, lives at RR 1 Box 13, Ishpeming, Mi., 49849. According to my dad, she has been doing some research on the Zryd family and may be of some further help.
I too, am a retired teacher,(mathematics) here in the Detroit area and am interested in obtaining further information on our Zryd family name, so please feel free to e-mail me with an update.
Hope that I have been of some help.

Yours,
Ken Zryd

I am also part of the Marquette, MI Zryd family. My great-great grandmother was Elizabeth May Zryd, daughter of Joseph Zryd and Barbara Stewart. I am a member of the Marquette Genealogy Society and know Pat Hassenger who has given me Zryd ancestry back to the 17th century. At this time I'm more interested in finding the Stewart ancestry back in Scotland but will share any information on either side. Please email if interested to ntichelaar@mymailstation.com

Surnames: Zryd Watterson
I am also descended from Charles Edward & Jemima Watterson Zryd. I am the Granddaughter of Walter Edward & Mayme Mildred Snover Zryd, my mother was Ruth Jeanette Zryd. I know very little of my Zryd side, my Grandmother Mayme died in 1936 and their children were raised by her older brother Joseph Snover on their family farm just outside of Richmond, MI. I imagine Walter was by no means capable of raising 4 small children and my mother was told he was encouraged by the family to allow them to be raised on the farm their mother had grown up on. I have a few pictures of my Grandfather, he was a very handsome dark haired man.

I would love to hear more about this family I know so little about.
