My grandson's last name is Zrimsek. I was just wondering what nationality it was.

Hi.. Well my family name is Zrimsek and I was always told it was Austrian.

Thanks for the reply Eddie. The baby's father is adopted (by Zrimseks), and doesn't know his genetic father's last name. He wasn't sure what Zrimsek was. I know it has no bearing on the baby's ethnicity, I was just curious as I had never heard of it before. My assumption was that it was some sort of Slavic name, and a Polish e-mail friend also thought so. You state that its Austrian, which, depending on time frame could be Austro-Hungarian empire which encompassed todays Slovak and Czech Republics, Hungary, Austria and portions of Ukranine and various other countries. At least that narrows it down to a region of Europe. Thanks again.

My maiden name is Zrimsek. My father and his family were from Rudnik Slovenia formly Jugoslavia. His fathers family was also from that area, but as far as we know there is only one cousin left there with the name.

Thank you Sonja. By any chance are you from Western PA, Pgh. area? That's where these Zrimseks are from. As a funny aside, one of the office personal from the pediatric office where my grandson is seen, called my daughter, and wanted to know how he came by that name, as it was her maiden name also, and she didn't know much about any others of the family. She just happened to be refiling charts and saw the name.

Hi Vicki, no I am from the Ottawa Valley in Ontario, but now reside in Vancouver BC area. My father still lives in the Ottawa area. We know of no relatives living in Canada or the USA, but it would be wonderful to find family here.

Just wondering if any Zrimsek's were acquainted with Joe and Mary Franko of Illinois. The Franko family imigrated from what is now Slovenia but in 1900 it was in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. I have a picture identified as Zrimsek Family but no year given. The man sitting has a left side part in the hair, a mustache and wearing a long sleeve shirt. I guess two of the girl's ages as about 10 and 8 and seem to have dark hair. A young boy about 6 and another younger girl perhaps 4 seem to have blonde hair. The picture was sent to me by Joe and Mary's oldest son. Will send a scanned copy if anyone is interested.
