As you can see I am an English Zneimer. My father is more knowledgebale than I about the Zneimer family.

We might be related. It seems that the surname might be one taken from the town of Znojmo (formerly Zneim, Austria) by many who left there way back in the 15 century.

Anyhow let us know of any ancestry you know of. We are aware of family in the states. Interestingly enough the EllisIsland.com cite has some Zneimers recorded on it.

Fascinating stuff!!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks so much for replying. I have been to the ellis island site. The patriarch of the listings shown is one Nicholas Zneimer, my great-grandfather. He came from Russia by way of Argentina. Nicholas and his brothers emigrated to the US in the 1890's - 1900's. Their parents were Samuel Zneimer and Annette Perlmann. I don't have birth/death dates for them.

Samuel Zneimer's father was Elihu Zneimer. That's all we know! The family does believe itself to be descended from the town of Zneim/Zneim, so we're probably related.

I have more info on descendants that I would be willing to share.

Very interested to read your comments. I believe that there is a connection. My father was Leonard Zneimer, his father was Edward Zneimer (I believe that he was a brother to Nicholas). My brother is Edward Joseph Zneimer. As you can see, my name is Annette and I was named for the person married to Samuel Zneimer. I am also descended from the Znojmo families. My father and mother went to Czechoslovakia many years ago to try to find various sites. My father died in 1975 at the age of 60. I am 62 years old. There were Zneimers in Syracuse, NY around the late 1950s to early 1960s, but I find from this site, that they are both deceased. There are, however, children somewhere. There are Jewish and Non-Jewish Zneimers. The Syracuse Zneimers were not Jewish. He was an Episcopal Minister. I am of the Jewish Zneimers. Please reply and let me know what other information you may have. Thanks, Annette

See my e-mail sent today for more info.

I am the grandson of the 'Syracuse Zneimers' you reference. I would be interested in trying to track the Zneimer / Znojmo name back into Europe.

Dear Annette

My father Ivor Zneimer and I have been researching the various linkages between the Zneimers.

We are related to Sidney Zneimer who lived in the US and died I think back in the 80s. Also Dad discovered some relkations in Canada who spell their name Znaimer.

Ivor knows more than I.

However it may please you to know that another little Zneimer was born here in London. Lily Kate Rachel was born December 4th. A lillte earlier than expected weighing in at 6lbz 11oz!!

She joins my brother Saul's 6 kids as my parents 7th grandchild. Just for your information Saul and I have another two brothers Ed who is the youngest at 30 years old and Andy who is 38. I am 35, Saul who is incidentally an orthodox rabbi (although we were brought up in a traditional non religious household!), is the eldest at 40.

You can contact me on the above email or my father on Ivor.Zneimer@hrskillbase.com

I am now going to call him and tell him about you...See if he can fit you in his Zneimer jig-saw, I am sure he can!!

Happy Channukah to you and all your family.

Very best wishes

Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,
Thank you so much for the Email. I have not been checking frequently, but I am gald to hear from you. Things are becoming a bit clearer. I have an address for Ivor and Cynthia Zneimer in Middlesex in my address book. Some years ago, my friend, Kenneth O'Toole from Middlesex related a story that his son came home from school one day and questioned him regarding his father's friend in the US, Edward Zneimer, and saying that there was someone is his class with that name. Could that be your brother? As to Sidney Zneimer, I knew him and actually flew to Montreal with him and his wife Gertrude, I believe (and their dog) in a private plane to the Bar Mitzvah of Samuel Znaimer, brother of Moses Znaimer and Libby Znaimer. Moses is very well know in Toronto. Libby was a correspondent for some news station and I remember hearing her report the death of Golda Meir many years ago. Have not been in touch with them in a very long time. I am also familiar with Saul Zneimer as head of the United Synagogue in England. My brother has had conversation with the California Zneimers, but I cannot bring their name up in my mind. Mazel Tov to you on the birth of Lily Kate Rachel. Keep in touch and accept our fondest wishes for a Happy Chanukah and a very healthy New Year.
Best regards, Annette

Hi to all who may be interested in this.
My maiden name is Neimer, the Z was dropped by my grandfather (I think) when he lived in London. His father (I don't know his name) and family moved from Riga. My grandfathers name was Jack Neimer and he lived in the East End of London. He married a non Jewish girl, Florence Rogerson, and was, as a result, cut off by his family. They had four children Nathaniel Neimer(died from whooping cough at they age of 9), David Neimer (my father), John Neimer (has three children) and Ann Neimer.
I have a sister Rebecca Neimer.
It would be REALLY great to hear from anybody who may be related to me!

Amanda Mann (nee Neimer)
