Does anyone have any information on a Casmier Zmick or Nicholas Zmich? Deatta Julia Zmick's father was Casmier Zmick, who's father was Nicholas Zmich. Deatta Zmick is my Grandmother. Please post any info you have. Thanks.

Deatta Zmick is my aunt. I am Joe Zmick's daughter, and have some (limited) family info. Unfortunately, I am not as familiar with the Kassin family. Who are your parents? I have begun a family site at myfamily.com. If you contact me at jodi@gardener.com, I will set you up to view the site. It doesn't get a WHOLE lot of traffic, but, then again, our family is HUGE. If you are in Michigan, I would suggest contacting your great-grandmother (Regina Zmick) for info while she is still around. She turned 95 this year, in August. I live in Canada, and am 7 months pregnant, so I won't be travelling anytime soon. Look forward to hearing from you.

I am researching this side of the family these days. I am a descendant of Anna Czapp and John Kreft. Their son was Anthony Kreft who is my great grandfather (of Detroit). His sister, Martha Kreft, married into the Ponke family while Anthony's daughter, Cecilia Kreft, married into the Baranski family. And I'm sure you know that Cecilia and Viola Baranski also married into the Ponke family. I just located Viola's daughter, Regina and I'm debating either writing her or calling her. I'm trying to find Martha Kreft Ponke's photograph and any other info on the family. I am the second cousin of Carl, Richard, Frank and sib Baranski's.

Regina Zmick is over 96 years old, living in a nursing home. Her memory is sketchy at best, and all older family photos have been distributed. How do I know this? She is my grandmother. You can email me privately if you wish. She will be very confused if you call her, not understanding your request. If you write to her, she may or not get back to you as someone will have to not only read the letter, but draft a response. I will see if there is anything I can find from one of my aunts that you may be interested in. Regina has 5 children, 31grandchildren, over 20 great-grandchildren, and a half dozen or so great-great grandchildren.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, for some reason my e-mail didn't notify me that this site had been updated. Unfortunately, before I had written the first message, I had already contacted Regina Zmick, my great-gandmother. It's been a while since I visited her, and her memory is nearly gone now, but a few years back I had already asked her about her husband's family. She was unable to remember any further back than I had already traced. I was hoping someone else had some info. Thanks anyway.

Jeremiah,

Would you happen to have any old photographs of Violet, Celia, and Regina Baranski? Violet and Celia married John and Anthony Ponke (brothers) who were the sons of Martha Kreft. Martha was the sister of my great grandfather, Anthony Kreft and Anthony's daughter, Celia Kreft married Charlie Baranski (the Baranski girls brother!).

As a matter of fact, I believe my mother might. She was given a lot of old pictures because she does a lot of scrapbooking. I think my grandpa has most of the originals, but I'll have to ask her about it.

Nicolas owned a beer garden in Rapson, Michigan in the early 1900's. He also owned an ice business and Casmier and his brother Ray delivered ice for their father. They were known around town to be some real hell raisers. Casmier met Regina Baranski at a dance in Bad Axe. Her parents did not approve and this caused a lot of problems. We used to take our children Jeremy and Krista to see grandma regularly and she told us a lot about her youth.
