Sophia, b 3-17-1885 in Poland, d 10-24-1856 at Olean, NY. children of this union were: Josephine; John; Chester; Blanche; Sigmund; and Alexander John. Any assistance appreciated.

Re: Immigrants from Poland, ca 1902
Interesting. I don't have specific information on your Walter Zlotkowski or Sophia Witkowski; however, I do have some coincidental information. This is my husband's family.
His grandfather, John ZLOTKOWSKI, came from Poland to US (New York) before 1918. He md. Wladyslawa Unknown (also from Poland) and they had 5 children: Thaddeus (my husband's father, b. 1918), Helen, Jane, Jessie and Regina. Helen married a Henry Witkowski. I don't know much more than that, really, but I find it interesting that you have a male Zlotkowski marrying a female Witkowski, and I have a female Zlotkowski marrying a male Witkowski. Most of this took place in New York. Have any thoughts on this?

Re: Immigrants from Poland, ca 1902
I am travelling doing genealogical research on another surname and will return to my files (Zlotkowski) in a month or so. I will respond at that time. Thanks for the follow-up. Not many interested in Zlotkowski and surely there is some connection. I can share more data when I get to my files. Regards.

Re: Immigrants from Poland, ca 1902
Well, it has been one year since I looked at this board. The result has been a long failure to answer your query. I have been traveling and also completing a now published book upon another surname. This has kept me from the Zlotkowski message board.
I cannot explain the similarities in our shared Zlotkowskis and Witkowskis. I suspect that these families knew each other either in Russia, Poland, and/or the USA. This family is the maternal lineage of my daughter-in-law. I shall consult her mother to see if she has any information about your lineage.
Have you checked the Ellis Island arrivals? Also, you can now find the ship upon which your ancestors traveled and a picture of it as well.

Re: Immigrants from Poland, ca 1902
Francis, it was good to hear from you. I haven't done much with this line for the past year, either. I have looked at the Ellis Island web site a couple of times, but with no real success. However, I recently received some old documents from my husband's uncle, who is 87, which he found in a trunk in his attic. They are basically immigration and naturalization papers, as well as passport applications, etc. Not being Polish, I'm not well-versed in the spelling variations. It is only after seeing these papers and questioning our uncle that I find that women would have used an "a" at the end of the name, rather than the masculine "i." So I shall search again. Like you, I suspect that the families probably knew one another and inter-married. There is a lot of that in my own lines, as well. I would love to hear what you find out from your daughter-in-law's mother. Hope to hear from you in the near future. Sincerely,
Earline Long-Zlotkowski

Re: Immigrants from Poland, ca 1902
Can you give us some more information? Parents' names, birthdates, siblings, their parents, from where in Poland they immigrated? Where they settled in the US? Give us something to compare with our information.
