Chris, my husband's family name is ZLOTKOWSKI, and that's around the time they immigrated from Poland, I believe. They primarily went to and stayed in Brooklyn, except for my father-in-law, who married a MACHOWSKI from Ansonia, CT. He moved to CT. and live out his life there. To my knowledge, however, none of them changed their names to Adams. That's quite a change! Sorry.

Earline, thanks for the input. My ggrandfather changed the last name to Adams after his oldest son, who continued to remain a Zlotkowski. I am trying to locate any family of my great uncle Adam Zlotkowski.

Chris, I will be talking with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law in a couple of days, and I'll check on this for you. If they have anything, I'll let you know. Good luck.

Earline, I appreciate the help you are giving me. If you do find anything you can email me at this address: savoia@hargray.com. Do you have relatives in Georgia? There are alot of LONG names in area where I used to live. Chris

Chris, I have just recently solicited information on the Zlotkowski family from some cousins whom my husband barely knows, due to a rift in the family when his father married his mother. My husband says that he does not believe his father had any brothers. However, my husband's grandparents immigrated from Poland and my husband doesn't know if they came with parents, siblings, or what. I am hopeful that within a few weeks I may have some answers. If so, I will be sure and let you know. In addition, do a search for Zlotkowski on the ShipsList. There is an interesting story there about two brothers who immigrated, had a rift, and one changed his last name to Adams, I believe. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll look it up and get more specific for you.

Hi Earline, I'm the grandaughter of Adam Stanley Zlotkowski, who came over from Poland to Connecticut at the end of the 1800's with his family. My grandfather left his family because of a rift (I heard it was with his dad) and joined the Army, then met and married my grandmother. He never rejoined his family, but kept in touch with some of them. Last year, I was introduced to Chrissy Wishart, who said my grandfather was her grandfather's brother. I learned that my grandfather's brothers changed their last name from Zlotkowski to Adams because of my grandfather Adam leaving. What information do you have? I noticed that you said brothers came over and had a rift (the only rift I know about was between my grandfather and his dad, according to what he told my mother). My grandfather never talked about his family very much, but my mother remembers certain facts here and there that he'd mention now and then. Please email me at paul.parsons@wcom.com. Sonja Parsons

My family emigrated from Poland late 1800s early 1900s...my gg grandfather's name was Thomas Zlopkowski (although we may have misread my grandma's death certificate). He married Josephine Niczkowska...They had a daughter, Julia, born April 15, 1895 in Poland. She married in Syracuse NY in 1917.
Do you think they have any connection to your family? Can you suggest how I find immigration records...for Polish immigrants? Thanks!

I've had family illness (extended) and apologize for the terrible time lapse between your post and this answer. Nevertheless, you can write to the National Archives in D.C. and request immigration and naturalization records for ancestors. They have a web site which tells you what form to use and how to order it. Good luck!

Re: zlotkowski immigrants late 1800''s
I am a descendant of Stanley and Antonia Zlotkowski from Poland to CT in the late 1800's. They had a daughter, Mary, my grandmother. She married Matthew Amarante. My father is their son , Edward. They had 8 more children. I would love to hear from you!
