I am trying to locate any Ziara, that may have connections to the following given names: John, Judith, Eva, Bert, and Joseph. Possible area concerned would maybe be the Chicago, Illinois area, but who knows? Michigan maybe? Eva Doyle married John Ziara, and moved to Muskegon, Michigan about 1900, John Ziara died in Muskegon, Michigan in 1953. Crossing my fingers!

Hi Brian, It's so good to see someone else posting on the surname 'Ziara' ! Since putting up this post I have found that the Ziara I have been looking for,John, had immigrated to America in 1913 on board the "Veeland' out of Antwerp, Belgium. in 1913. He was immigrating from Goscieradow, Lubelskie,Poland, and left a sister Maryann behind there. He was traveling to Muskegon, Michigan where he was to meet up with his Uncle Joseph Ziara. Some dear soul at the Ancestry.com message board Boards > Localities > Central Europe > Poland > Malopolskie Board had searched and found the information for me. Just a suggestion, but have you posted to the Slovakian message board, under localities yet? Thanks for your reply ! Maybe we can get others who are searching for Ziara's to post what, and where they found information here also. I know there are others out there searching for this surname, I've run into them elsewhere. Good luck on your searching and have a very Merry Christmas!

I know it's been more than a year, but if you're still searching, my dad is from Muskegon MI, and my grandpa was known as both Bruno and Bert. If you're still searching drop me a line, I'd be happy to do some research and I'd be glad to find out more about my history! Steve Ziara

Wow, thanks a lot Patricia! That already answers some of my questions. I'd be glad to help you out with anything I can, I'm just getting started with all this, so I don't have a lot so far, but I plan on doing a lot of research. I'm Tom's son by the way. Have you ever been in contact with my family? Thanks for your help, I might have some more questions soon if that's alright. Sincerely, Steve Ziara

No problem Steve, maybe between the two of us we can figure out how to do research through Poland's history. I've done alot of researching but not in a country like Poland, where its another language, so I'm kind of lost. Right now I'm searchig for websites and mailing lists where the researchers are of Polish descent.
I was in touch with someone in the Ziara family, Brian Susoreny and Judy Nadeau (granddaughter of Joseph Ziara). I don't know how Brian fits in the family but he was researching Ziara also, (From Brian to me(Date: 23 Dec 2002 9:56 AM GMT ) My great-grandmothers maiden name was Ziara. She married a Susoreny before coming to America. The family settled in Whiting, IN. There were relatives in Greenwich, CT and Indiana. The family came from Hubova, Slovakia)
I've lost touch with both Brian and Judy so I don't know if they've made any headway on their research.
Anyway, yes by all means keep in touch! If I find anything I'll let you know! Do you have a gedcom setup yet?
Various spellings found so far:Ziara, Zyara, Zjara

Hey Patricia, I have a few friends who actually speak polish, so if you need a few basic translations let me know. I'll be in touch again soon! Thanks! Steve Ziara

I have a connection to Joseph Ziara in Muskegon, MI. Do you have any info on him? I am also from Muskegon and have been trying to locate a marriage certificate for him and a wife named Anna. He died in 1942.
|
I don't have any information on Joseph's marriage to Anna. Anna Scuszyk, right? I have Joseph Ziara died Oct 1965 Whiting, Lake, Indiana. I got that from Harold Schneider and the social security death index. Now there was another Joseph previous to the one I mentioned. That Joseph was an uncle to the Joseph married to Anna Scuszyk, could this be the one you're looking for?
