My Joseph is not the one that died in Whiting Lake, in 1965. How old was he? But you said he had a Uncle Joseph? Do you have any info on him. My Joseph was in Muskegon, MI. around 1915 and had 3 boys with Anna Tyndyk, which were given up for adoption. He was born around 1874

Responding to Ziara inquiry - relatives that came from Poland and settled in Indiana. We are related to Albert and Antonina Ziara and their children: John, Steven and Mary Ann Ziara who came to Muskegon, Mi. from Poland in the early 1900's. John married Eva Doyle, Steven married Marie___ and they both worked on boats out of Chicago. One settled in Illinois and one in Indiana. Lost contact with them. Mary Ann Ziara married Joseph Slikowicz of Lithuania and stayed in Muskegon, Mi. My husband is a grandson of Mary Ann.

If you are still researching the name of Ziara - we are related. Talked to your dad Tom Ziara today at my father-in-law's funeral. Tom and my husband John Cihos our first cousins. John's mother was Helen Slikowicz Cihos, her mother was Mary Anna Ziara Slikowicz from Muskegon, Mi. Mary Anna had two brothers: John Ziara and Steven Ziara who were born in Poland and came to Muskegon in the early 1900's. They were on the 1920 census report as living with their sister and parents, Albert and Antonina Ziara.

Lori Adams - if you are still checking this board, I think you may be related to my husband's family. His mother was Helen Slikowicz Cihos and her mother was Mary Anna Ziara Slilkowicz. Mary Anna had two brothers: Steven and John Ziara. Their parents were Albert and Antonina Ziara from Poland who came to Muskegon, Mi. with Steven and Mary Anna around 1915. The oldest son, John (Jan) Ziara came here alone around 1913 to stay with an uncle Joseph Ziara. brother of Albert Ziara. I had heard there were some children up for adoption and Antonina and Albert Ziara were asked to raise them but they declined because they were elderly and already raising 3 grandchildren . These were Mary Anna Ziara Slikowicz's children after she died in 1925 at the age of 29 of a brain tumor. Her husband Joseph Slikowicz left town after he got her insurance money, and left his two children Thaddeus (Ted) and Helen Slikowicz (my deceased mother-in-law) and his stepson, Bruno (Bert) Ziara with their grandparents who then raised them. I got a call once redirected from my mother-in-law from a woman near Fremont, Mi. who has looking for relatives of the three Ziara children who were adopted out. She was going to have her sister out in Washington (formerly of Pentwater, Mi.) call me. I never heard from her. I believe their father's adopted name was Statton.

I think your Uncle Joseph is the one that married my Anna Tyndyk. He was a lot older than her. And they are the ones that gave up the 3 boys, two of them were adopted by the Strattons. Do you know of anybody that has information on this Joseph and Anna. She died here in Muskegon,MI. in 1935 and he died in Ark. in 1942. He also worked at the Brunswick Corp. I think they may have married in St. Louis,MO.

Did you find out why they gave up these 3 children? Was it because she died and he was too old to care for them? Unfortunately both my in-laws have passed away in the last 7 mos and they would have been the only ones to know anything. We had a call from a lady near Fremont who was related to the adopted Stratton boys and she was going to have her sister out in Washington call me as she had been doing the Ziara research. I never heard back from her. I think her name was Judy and she had formerly lived in Pentwater the sister said. At that time, I discussed this with my in-laws and all they knew was that these were children of Helen (Ziara) Slikowicz Cihos' great uncle Joseph, brother of her grandfather Albert Ziara. Albert came here around 1915 I think with the family. His oldest son John Ziara had come first and lived with this uncle Joseph. She had no knowledge of Anna. She did know that her grandparents Albert and Antonina Ziara were asked to raise these children but they were old and raising their own 3 grandkids. Have you tried getting Anna's death certificate at the County Building? I did find online that in the 1920 census - there is a Edward Ziara, born 1915 and a Felix Ziara, born 1916 that were residing in Muskegon, Mi. Could these be 2 of the 3 children? You might also check at the Polish Catholic Church - St. Michael's in Muskegon to see if they have baptismal certificates for these two children in 1915 and 1916. Good Luck and keep me posted.

Hi, its been a long time since I have looked Joseph Ziara up, I don't know if you are still on here. Yes this is the Uncle Joseph that I am looking for. He was my Grandmothers first husband and they had three boys that were given up. He was older then my Grandmother Anna Tyndyk. She divorced him and married my grandfather Mikolaj Gleban or Nick. From what I know that Nick couldn't care for them so Anna had placed them in the childrens home not understanding that they would be adopted out. My mother and her sister reunited with the boys around the 1950s and I had met them once in the 70s at a family reunion in Freemont MI. In earlier post I had thought he might of died in Ark. but think I am wrong. I just cant find where Joseph died. His ww1 registration he was born in Poland march 22,1876. I would like to know where he died, and where he married Anna. Trying to find more info on her. Really don't know if Anna is even her real name, because the story is that she used someone elses birth cert. to hop a ship here because she was underaged, and she had a fiancé waiting here and he died on her way over and she married an older man Joseph Ziara to be able to stay here. I live here in Muskegon MI.
