Variantions in the western spellings are Cheung, Chang, Tchang, Tiu etc.: Our ancestor has list down a pattern in our name (2nd character) to distinguish that we have the same ancestor. In fukien it is pronounce as (for the first generation) nai, kian, khe , kong , bing ... Any one who has this kind of pattern?

Re: Zhang our ancestral line
There are two Zhang (s) from fujian. Both of them are made up by two chinese character. The most popular one is made up by the character "bow" on the left and the character "grow" on the right. This Zhang mean expand or enlarge. The other Zhang or Cheung is made up by the character "stand" on top and "early" on the bottom. This Zhang means "essay" or "document".
Which Zhang is your family name?
I have 20 plus generation of information for the "Cheung" the "essay". If you have the last name mean "eassy" we can discuss it more.

Re: Zhang our ancestral line
Hi Frederick. I read your message and as you said, there are 2 zhang and they are not related according to some articles in the interned. How can I tell which line I belong. I don't write chinese characters but as far as I can remember, my grandfather wrote our surname similar to this one: 張. So, what do you think? I am a Filipino Chinese and it is hard to trace our ancestral line. thanks for the help.
