Hi Tracie,
I found Annanias Zeagler with Brambly in the 1850 census in Catahoula County, LA. We also have Zeagler ancestors from Catahoula,LA. In 1860 Ananias(notice sometimes it's spelled with 1 N and other times with 2 N's) is still in Catahoula but the wife is listed as H Zeagler. They have 3 children at that time, James,1,Zacheriah,6,and Nancy,3. Next door is I.D.Zeagler who I believe is Isaiah Dee Zeagler with his wife Mary and 7 kids. He is probably a relative of Ananias but if the ages are correct is too young to be his father. Perhaps an older brother. Isaiah is listed as 49 and Ananias as 33 in the 1860 census. Isaiah was in the Franklin County, MS census in 1840. Also his father was Michael Zeagler,JR who was also in the MS census. Email me if any of this helps. I have a book on the Zeigler-Seigler Family that includes Isaiah but not Ananias. Did he ever go by another name?

I have the information on his children and wives but cannot find his parents or his 1st wife, Bramley Masters, parents. His children were Nancy and Zachariah by his 1st wife and then he married Harriet Smith in 1858. My husbands uncle "said" he was an orphan, but his father or the person who raised his as his father was Michael Zeagler Jr. HOWEVER....I have no proof and hate to put that all together and it is not correct. You know....gotta have your sources, right!? As for the spelling with 1 or 2 N's, I think that goes back to whoever was writing down the names. They wrote it the way they thought it was spelled. Ananias was born in MS in the late 1820s and I have been looking at old censuses to see if I can find an extra male in there that is not accounted for later, does that make sense? Anyway...I am not sure if he went by another name or not, nor his wife. Their children are listed in the 1870 census living with Isaac and Nancy Masters. So I wonder if Bramley is their daughter, but again I cannot prove it. Other wise why would her kids be living with them and just happen to have a daughter named Nancy just like Nancy Masters?!?! See why I am so lost? Thanks!

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly...i.e. eliminating all the possibilities. I have done this for my brick walls as well. The parents of Brambly could definitely be Isaac and Nancy if they are the right ages. I noticed several Masters in the 1850 census of Catahoula county. I also saw that Michael Zeagler was in the 1840 census of MS and he had a son listed as between 20-30. That would be too old to be Ananias if the age listed in the 1850 census is correct.
One place you might get a lead on the parents is the marriage record/license if you can find it.
My married name is Zeagler and my husband's line comes from Michael Zeagler b.1738 in Germany, then John,b.1778South Carolina, then Joseph,b.1800 SC, Francis Marion,b.1842 MS, then Fred b.1888 in LA. The last entry is my husband's grandfather. He died in 1963 in Louisiana.
Sorry I couldn't find more about Ananias but I'll keep your email and forward anything new that shows up.
