My mother's maiden name is Zdeb and I am also trying to find information on this name and family. My mother's family came from around Kielce in Poland and went to Australia after WW2. I have some information about the surname that I can give you.

My wife and I just spent a year in Poland and had the opportunity to research the Zdeb family (my wifes mother was a Zdeb). I found the following info: The surname Zdeb comes from the term zdeb, which means "wildcat, bold cat," and in a more figurative sense "gloomy or selfish fellow." Names such as this generally got started as nicknames, designating a person who had some apparent connection with a wildcat -- perhaps he ran into one once, or perhaps he hunted them, or trapped them. And of course the name could also stick because of some perceived similarity in character -- a person who reminded folks of a wildcat might end up being called "Zdeb." It is a moderately common name, as of 1990 there were 1,742 Poles named Zdeb. They lived all over the country, with particularly large numbers in the provinces of: Katowice (125), Kielce (254), Krakow (163), Lublin (202), and Tarnow (227), thus in southcentral to southeastern Poland.
Our family is from the Lublin area.
If you are interested in any of the contacts, let me know. Jack

Zdebs in south east Poland
Not the Ukraine specifically, but our family came from just a couple of miles from the boarder, and I am sure there was some cross-over. There are a lot of bad feelings (or at least were) between the bordering areas of Poland and the Ukraine, as a lot of Ukrainian people came over to Poland right after the war and killed a lot of the local inhabitants. Seems they thought they should have been given that territory after WW2. My wife’s great grandmothers grave is actually about a mile from the Ukrainian border, but the rest of the family moved away from that area in the 40s.

Hello. I'm Julia Zdeb. I'm from Ukraine. My grandfather's name was Petro Zdeb, his father's name was Andrew Zdeb. My dad was Anatoliy Zdeb. They all died. And where are you from. I'll be waiting for an answer.

My 4th-great-grandparents were:
Jan Krzaczek [~1761 – 20 February (Luty) 1813] + Zofia Zdeb [~1762 – 21 January (Styczeń) 1837]
Her father was named Szymon. The family was either in Helenków or nearby Kozowa. These WERE in western Galicia, in the Kozowa-Berezhany subdistrict. That area is now western Ukraine.
I haven't gotten any further back than 5th-great-grandfather Szymon Zdeb.
