Casimir, since you are reading these message boards maybe you can help. Do you know a Rose Bikowski Shiry. I know my grandparents, Dmito and Rose came over from Poland sometime during the late 1800's or early 1900's. My grandfathers mother's name was Mary Pulaski and he had her listed from the Sonuk (?) area. Do you have any suggestions as to how to proceed from here?

Hello Beckey,

I am also looking for my "Zbikowski" family in the States. Zbikowski was my Mother nee name. Our family, Stanley Zbikowski immigrated to the USA in early 1900s. Last contact ith him and family we had in 1961 from Detroit. At that time we were in Poland, behind iron bars. the name of town or village suppose to be Sano, south of Poland. Let me know if you will know samething. regards. Ella

Hi Ella:

My grandfather's name was Dmitro Shiry, he was married to Rose Bikowsky (according to my fathers application for Social Security). According to the scant information I have, she died in July of 1966 in Pittsburgh, PA. Dmitro worked for Jones and Laughlin Steel Co. According to Dmitro's application for Social Security, he was from a place called Sonok, Poland. He was not literate, and spoke very little English. Someone had obviously helped him fill out the SS application, so Sonok may be the way it sounded to whomever was filling out that form. Please email me if you think we may have a common ancestor. as you can see from the spellings above, they sound the same especially to the Polish immigrants who came to the united states. Around 1885-1920 they traveled to work in America. Check all spellings, for relatives. I am from the Bycofski/Bajkowski family- but BIKOWSKY is in our family. Actually 13 variations of spellings- so far all related....

My grandfather's name was Stanley Zbikowski. He was born in Pittsburgh PA in 1902. I know that we have relatives in Michigan but I am not certain how. Some of his brothers are Joseph, and I believe Frank. If you know anything about this please reply.

Hi Brett, My Great-grandfather Stanislaw
Zbikowski came to the USA around 1899-1900.
He settled near or in Pittsburg PA. He died
in Natrona in 1943. His sons were Zigmond and
Aleksander, his daughters were Cecelia, Sophia
Janina (my grandmother), and Helen. Helen
died just a few years ago. I tried to get
some info from her but she refused to help me.
Said someone else in the family also called
her. She didn't remember who. Was it you?
I hope. Do you live in PA? I live in MI.
The det. Public Library flooded this summer
and has been closed and may not reopen. This
has severely hinder my research. I sure hope
we have a connection. Fran

Hi Fran. I will try to find out some information on some of these people and if my father knows of anyone who is related. I can tell you that there is also a man with the name Donald Zbikowski in Buffalo Grove Illinois. By some strange coincidence he has the same name as my father but there is no relation that we are aware of. They may be a path for you to follow. I know that they used to be listed in the telephone book. I was born in PA and moved out to Illinois later. All of my relatives are in PA but I do not know any of the Zbikowski's since my grandfather eloped with my grandmother and the family cut ties with them. There names where Joseph, Frank and I believe a womans name? I am trying to find out. But I was not the one to contact Helen. My grandfathers name was Stanley and he was born in America. I even think it was Pittsburgh. That was in 1902. Hope this helps and if you can let me know what you find especially if it pertains to me, your help is apprecited. Take care.
