I am a great-grandaughter of Frank and Mary Zalar. Joseph Zalar(my grandpa) was their son. He married Deloris Trisch who is from the same town in Penn.

My Great Great Grandfather is Anthony Zalar from Slovenia. Had a daughter Anna who was married to Joseph Grum. Anna's siblings were Franc, Algz, John, Louis, Ivana, and Angela (married name Maticic). By my records, Anthony was married to Francis Kovosec. I trace this back to St. Vid Yugoslavia 1898. Let me know if this helps, or if you have any information for me.

Ambrose/Ambroz Zalar/Zolar b 1872 in Slovenia d 1936 in Dunlo, Cambria co PA; arrived in NY in 1903; coal miner.
married Papena Strasissie in 1907 in Lloydell, also b Slovenia in 1882 d 1924 in Dunlo. Ambrose's parents are John & Agnes Zalar and Papena's are Joe & Frances Strgahester, according to the marriage application. The priest wrote Strasissie.
I find the family in 1910 & 1930 census.
children: John b 1908, Joseph b 1909, Josephine b 1910, Anthony b 1911, Mary b 1913, Frank b 1914, Louis b 1915, Anna b 1919 & Michael b 1922 - all b in Dunlo.
I find everyone except Josephine b 1910 on the census. Josephine married William Clifford Caldwell in 1937.

Anyone know of this ZALAR family???

I noticed a previous post regarding Delores and Eleanor Trisch (married to Zalar's) and noticed that this post has a more recent email address. Delores and Eleanor are cousins to my grandmother, Katherine Surmick Vilga, b. 1892, d. 1961. Katherine is the daughter of Elizabeth Trisch Surmick, b. 1876, who was sister to George Trisch, the father of Eleanor and Delores.
My Vilga side has a double connection to the Trisch family through two marriages. Interested in exchanging info about the Slovakia connection and today's current Trisch's. I just returned from a trip to Slovakia where I visited the ancestral village of the Trisch's and found relatives.

Hello Sally. I have been reading all these old messages... I am related to the Onnalinda Zalar also. My Father is William Zalar, whose parents were William born 12/23/23 and Eleanor(Trisch) born 6/21/23 Zalar. My grandfather William's brothers and sisters were Joseph, Frank, Margart and Alice.
Frank Jr's wife, that you mentioned Tootie, she passed away yesterday. My dad's sister Maureen informed me.

Laura, Tootie as I knew of her, passed away yesterday. The funeral is Novemer 15 at Jean Kinley Funeral Home in Beaverdale PA. The number is 814-487-7611.

I have been reading all of these messages, and I'm related too. My Dad's (William Zalar) parents were William and Eleanor, and all the Franks, Jospehs, Dolores, were/are my aunts and uncles.
I as wondering if the Frank on here is My Dad's brother Frank from PA??

I am a granddaughter of John V. Zalar II from Cleveland, Ohio. John V. Zalar was inducted to the Polka Hall of Fame in 1999. He was an avid accordian man. His father and mother are Austrian/ Slovanian. The Zalar family mainly resides in Cleveland, Ohio. John Zalar's 4 sisters are still alive. John Zalar I was born in 1886 and came to the US in 1910.

I received your message wondering if your Zaller family is connected to my Zalar family. I've been researching my family tree a bit. My grandfather (John Zalar) came to the US in 1913 along with several brothers. I don't know if they all came at the same time or not. I do know that except for my grandfather moving to Shamokin, PA (Notheasteren PA) to work in the coal mines, his brothers moved to western PA and Ohio to look for work. Also one brother went back to Slovenia. My aunt tells me she thinks there were 7 brothers in all. I'm currently trying to find out their first names, and if they changed the spelling to Zaller or vise versa. I'll try to keep you informed.

I am trying to find any history on an Anthony Zalar Born 6th October 1890. W Cesta Kransko, Austria. I unearthed a WW1 dog tag in Petersburg Va. Near Fort Lee. This would have been camp Lee at that time. I found the above information on his birth from the WW1 DRAFT RECORDS, only 1 Anthony Zalar was listed and he was listed to have been in Eagle CO. A am Joseph and Mary Zalar's granddaughter. Many descendants live in Joliet. The sons names were Joseph, Hubert and Richard. The daughters were Vida, Marion and Delores. My father was Dr. Joseph A. Zalar, deceased. The only son of Mary and Joseph still alive is Dr. Richard Zalar still living in Joliet. My grandfather was from Forest City, Pa. and had come from Slovenia. He was a teacher in Yugoslavia and worked in a coal mine in Pennsylvania. My father, Joseph, was originally married to Margaret Slattery. They had two children, Joseph and Charles before she died. My father then married Enid Bruning and they had two children, Enid(me) and Nanette. Joseph's second wife already had one child, Robert. We are all living in Illinois. My uncle Dick, Joseph's only surviving son, knows much history about his parents.

Wow! My daughter and I have just read your message. We are related!! I am the daughter of Joseph Zalar and Dolores Trish. Joseph died November 1, 1991. Dolores died in May of 1998. They are both at All Souls Cemetery in Cleveland, OH. Dolores lived in Tampa, FL near me. She moved there after my father's death. You were correct about everything about my father's family. My GGrandfather Martin Zallar (aka Zalar, Zaller, etc) was b. 1876 married Frances Okorn (aka Okoren, Okoron) abt 1904. My Grandmother Mary was born in 1905 in Velika Racna.

Rec'd msg. I know my GGrandfather Martin 1st came to US in 1899 (naturalization papers) and returned to Slovenia at least once prior to 1905. He married Frances Okorn (Okoren/Okoron) and their 1st daughter (my Grandmother, Mary) was born in Jan of 1905. I know that martin returned to US in March of 1905 (passport) to stay with his brother John in Sparta, MN (ship manifest & Johns address was listed in back of Martins passport). Frances & Mary came in November of 1905 (passport).

Johan Drobnic from Pueblo, CO; Anton Zigman from Joliet, IL were also listed in the back of his passport.

Martin's passport spells his name Zalar, Martin signed his documents Zallar. I have seen papers for martin with these spellings: Zoller, Zaller, Zohler, etc.....

I believe Martin had been in PA & CO prior to 1905 but have no supporting data. I have papers written in Slovenian (from martin) that I'm trying to translate. May provide some info.

I have no other information for siblings or parents at this time but will update you as I can

Hello, yes you have the right one, My Mother is the daughter of John Zalar, he was married to Rose Turk, Brother Frank ZalarSr. married Mary Scrnell-she died in Baltimore and he died in 1950--Frank Jr. died in 1977 he was married to Laura( Toots) still living on Onnalinda road in Sidman-he has Brothers Bill, wife Eleanore Trisch, Joe who died in Cleveland his wife is Deloris Trisch(Sisters Married Zalar brothers)--Zalar Sister is Alice she married Andrew Zaluski she died in Baltimore also and sister zalarMargaret married Albert Schutt
