Hi, all!
I'm looking for a connection between Antonio Yznaga del Valle, who owned Ravenswood Plantation on the banks of Lake St. John in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, and my great-great-grandparents, Jose Raphael Palmero (the son of Luis Mariano Palmero, a Cuban sugar plantation owner who was executed during the Ten Years War in Cuba) and Ella Lucretia Sirmon (the daughter of James S. Sirmon and Ann Mobley Clark Sirmon).
At the time of their marriage in 1873, either Ella or J. R. ("the partner," which might be Ella, but I'm not sure...) was living on Ravenswood Plantation. Ella's father, James, had been an overseer before the Civil War, but J. R. had Cuban roots, as did Antonio Yznaga del Valle.
Do the names Palmero or Sirmon sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone know whether Antonio Yznaga had an overseer named Sirmon or knew a man named Palmero? I would love to find out which of my ancestors lived there and what his or her function was on the plantation. And I would like to know a little bit more about Antonio Yznaga, as well. Thanks!
