I am looking for my Great Grandfather, Jacob Youtcy. Because the older generation were iliterate, there were three spellings of the name. Jacobs' name on his gravestone reads, YOUTCY, My Grandfather, Jose Juan (known as John), spelled his name Yutze and some people pronounced it YUCHI. John's half brothers and sisters spelled their name, YOUTSEY. Jacob was from Pennsylvania and was German Dutch and at the age of 16, he joined the military and went to Arizona to fight the indians. He never went back to Pennsylvania. He married three times and lived in Tucson, where he had a ranch and also in Kelvin, AZ where he is buried on top of a hill with his little dog, Dickie. He died in Florence, AZ

Re: Yutze, Youtcy, Youtsey
"Indiana Township 1805" vol. 2 pg. 218 "Civil War Soldiers of Indiana Township...partial role..buried in Harmar Cemetery and in the Denny-Henderson Cemetery...15th Pennsylvania Cavalry Jacob Yute" "Indiana Township 1805" vol 1. pg 109 "Lefever, Shorts, Yute Families (title)...Amanda Martha LeFever, granddaughter of Peter LeFever and grandmother of Anna Shorts Yute, ...Mrs. Yute...was born in Indiana Township...Anna Shorts, who married Addison Yute...As the mother of six children Anna Yute surely has many cherished memories..." This story gets complicated for non-family member.

Re: Yutze, Youtcy, Youtsey
Hello! I am also searching for my Great grandfather jacob youtsey, i also found his gravesite with his name spelled Youtcy, my grandfather was also named Jacob Youtsey, we have a letter that was found in the newspaper archives about my great grandfather jacob youtsey and it talks about his history as a military man. We know that he was born in Rocksburg, Somerset county and was a native of pennsylvania. I have not found out a lot about his family or who his wife was at all. I wonder if it is because the name is not spelled correctly. If you have any other information to share i would greatly appreciate it. If you have any other questions i would be happy to answer them. Thanks!
