Surnames: Yuskaitis, Juskaitis, Juskas
August Yuskaitis was my great-grandfather. He came over from Lithuania in the early 1900's. He was married to Anna Petritis who died on Feb. 19, 1922 in Brooklyn. She and August had 3 children, August (my grandfather), Peter (b. June 9, 1912) and William (b. Nov 5, 1913). All the children were born in Brooklyn. For the most part, they lived in Brooklyn in the East NY section around Shepard Ave. Two of the sons changed their names to Juskas.

I am looking for any early information on August Yuskaitis, my great-grandfather. He had some "habits" that caused his sons to destroy anything they had about him, including pictures etc. I do know he was a tailor. Any early information regarding his marriage to Anna, when he came over from Lithuania, any pictures or leads are most appreciated. I have all the census info from 1910 forward as well as vital records info I can share with folks involved with the line.

I'm looking for information about Mary Jungaitis also spelled Youngaitis who was b. 1902 in Pa. Her father was Augustus and her mother was Mary but I can't make out the last name. Mary went to Ct. where she married Joseph Young. Josephs parents were from Lituania. As name spellings changed alot do you think there could be a connection between the Augustus that I'm looking for and the August that you are looking for?

Hi Helen,

I have also found it was very common for Lithuanians to change their last name, even back in Lithuania.

There doesn't appear to be a connection to my family from the information you have. My grandfather, August Yuskaitis, didn't have any sisters and neither did his father (also August).

Sorry.

Lisa,

This has to be a match. I responded to your email.

My Great-grandfather AND grand-father both lived at that house on Sheppard Ave in Brooklyn and all the names match.

My mother would be your father's first cousin. I'll ask her today to see if she remembers you.
