Or maybe Jurchak - I am searching for my (grandmother) Anna - born approximately 1881-1889. She likely had 2 sisters Helen and Mary. One bother - Frank? Fedor? Not sure of the county, it could be Poland, Czech, Austria, depending on what maps you look at.

Merry Christmas, My name is Dianne Yurchak. My grandparents were Albert and Margaret (Yedinak) Yurchak. Grandpa was born in Clinton. He had 2 brothers, John and Peter and 2 sisters Julia and Anna. His father was Adalbertus Yurchak and he married Julianna Ondrej in 1898 in Streator. Give me a little more info (if you have it) about your Anna. Did she marry? Did she stay in the Clinton area? Adalbertus Yurchak (Jurcak)was born in 1871 in Kis-Hnilec, Szepes, Hungary and came to this country in 1891. Let's compare some notes.

My mother's dad was Theodore or something similar she thinks (he went by Frank). She is not sure of the original spelling of the surname. She has several old documents showing Jurchak, Yurchak, Juirchak, etc. At some point they stuck with Yurchak. She is also not sure of her dad's siblings (but she remembers he had some) or their country of origin. No one in the family has been able to figure it out. They spoke a language around the house when she was younger that's similar to Russian because she can somewhat understand Russian. We've never been able to find anyone in the Ellis Island records because of all the different spellings. I was wondering if this Frank could be your grandmother's brother. We would both appreciate anything you've found on the origin.

Thank you for responding.
The "Frank Yurchak" (Jurczak) that I have is the brother of Anna Yurchak, my grandmother. Anna had 3 siblings (Frank, Helen and Mary). I have them listed on my tree. Anna Yurchak was born in Velka Polana, Zemplin Co., Austria-Hungary
As you know, boundaries changed in WWII, and things are a bit hazy in searching. Searching these two names "Yurchak" and "Jurczak", there is information on Frank. I am adding it o my tree as I find it. I think you can see my tree? If not, stay in touch - happy to share whatever I find. We may be distantly related!

Thank you! I don't think the Yurchak, (Jurczak,Yurczak) that I have found were in Clinton. My grandmother, Anna Yurchak, was born 8-15-1886 in Velka Polana, Zemplin Co., Austria-Hungary. Her siblings, Helen, Frank and Mary went to PA and NY - not sure about Frank. Not sure where this leads us, but will keep searching.
Thank you.

Your ancestors came from Rusyn village Velka Polana, which does not exist anymore... I was born close Velka Polana. They were Carpatho-Rusyns.

Thank you for this information. Could you tell me where this village was? (On a map)? Also,do you know where I could find church records?
Thank you so much for your help.

You cannot find this village in any actual map, because people from Velka Polana were moved away in time of building water reservoir. This village was situated some 7 miles north of village Stakcin, eastern Slovakia. Original church records were not preserved from this village, but there exist bishop copies kept in Satoraljaujhely.

It seems your ancestor was Ruthenian/Rusyn. I would think that some of the old documents should contain a place of birth. What sort of paper trail did your Theodore (Frank) make? Was he naturalized citizen? Did he have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com Draft registration form might give a place of birth or at least a name of a historical region like Galicia.
In Poland JURCZAK. Take a listen to pronounciation http://say.expressivo.com
In Slovakia JURC'AK which in Hungarian was JURCSAK.
