I am a Yunck but my father came from Switzerland 1921 to Ellis Island and his name was not Yunck but Junck as it is all my family in Switzerland- guess I am not related to anyone?

You just may be related to one of us Yuncks. Junck (pronounced Yunck with a Y) is the original spelling and was translated to (Y)unck at Ellis as were many immigrants. When they had trouble pronouncing the name of an ancestor they asked what they did for a living and many Europeans became "Baker", "Carpenter" etc. which is a shame because it leaves a dead end when researching. Good luck, keep trying to make a connection, go through any old photos and search the passenger logs for when they came over here. Claudia Yunck Grudem

Thanks for the note. To hear from anyone with that last name, is wonderful. I know my father came alone from Switzerland/Luxemburg and I and my immediate family are the only one's of his here. The original name in Switzerland, that of my cousins and his children is Junck. I was stunned how many Yunck's were here in Revolutionary War times, esp in Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan.
Thanks again for the note.
