Glynn,
I got notification of your reply pretty soon after posting my message but the link in the notice would not work - I came across your message using Google - that must have crawled Ancestry recently. It would be easier to correspond by email.
If you will send me an email, I will send you a Gedcom as the most efficient way of giving you what I have

Re: Yull family in Norfolk UK
Hi Glynn,
I have traced the King family back to the Yull's in Norfolk. My lot are Bilney and my great great grandfather took his mother's maiden name of King and married a Phillip Yull.
Can you help me?
Many thanks, Ben King

Re: Yull family in Norfolk UK
I read your entry with interest. I write on behalf of a friend who's family we are tracing. His name is Robert Hallett, his parents were Albert Edward Hallett & Vera King married in 1934{Leicester}. Vera King born 1915 Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottingham. She the dau of Frederick William King & Kate Hufton married 1906 Basford, Notts. Frederick William King was born Oct1881 in Kirkby in Ashfield, son of Frederick King & Elizabeth Ann Ringrose. Frederick King {snr} was born 1852 in Great Massingham, Norfolk. The 1871 census for Newton Road, Castle Acre, Norfolk shows a Phillip Yull born Bilney 50, Mary Ann Yull born Massingham 40, Frederick King born Massingham 18, also 6 other Yull children all born {sic}Castle Acre. We have a marriage for Phillip Yull & Mary Ann King Jun1856 in the district of Freebridge Lynn. We think Frederick was illegitimate and that he was registered in the Mar qtr. of 1852 using the surname of his father & mother; eg. Mr Raspberry & Miss King. Therefore a Raspberry King entry can be seen in BMD index. Site of the marriage certificate for Yull & King will show if Mary was still a spinster at the time. Strange thou it may seem Raspberry is quite a common surname in that area of Norfolk, several can be found on the 1861 census. We think Mary Ann King is the dau of John King. Does this mean anything to you

Re: Yull family in Norfolk UK
This seems very familar to what I found out, but I never knew about the Raspberry's. My great great grandfather, Harold King, was Frederick and Elizabeth's youngest son, so the person you are writing on behalf of, must be our distant cousin.
Thank you very much for this information.

Re: Yull family in Norfolk UK
I have been told that the name was of Viking origin and that they settled on the Isle Of Yell. When they left the name went with them hence all the different spellings. How true this is I don't know.
