My husband is a descendant from the marriage of a Hance Anderson Yule(b. 1844, d. 1911) and Johanna Jepson (b. 1863, d.?). From the information that we have they both came from Denmark (tho have not really confirmed this) and had six children (Andrew, Minnie, Hubert, Nettie, Elizabeth and Thomas). How do they fit in your research?

Cheers, Janet

Hi Janet
My grandfather was Thomas Yule, he was the son of Hance Yule. Your husband and I must be related. We were in Owatonna Mn this summer and found out some pretty good information at the records center/ Hance died of colon cancer and was a retitred farmer. Johanna Jebson was from Wisc I beleive that my grandfather (Thomas) lost their farm in Owatonna during the depresion. I believe that Hance is buried in Merlon township, Steele county MN. I would be very interested to know how we are related. Thank you very much for your help

My husband is a grandchild of Andrew Yule, a brother to your grandfather Thomas. So definitely distant cousins.

Here is what "we" have on Hance and children (discovered there was another child since my last post). Much of this is based on family interviews and walking Forest Hills Cemetery in Owatonna by our child (a middle-schooler at the time) so very little is truly substantiated research and spellings of many of the names are all based on pronunciations:

HANCE ANDERSON YULE was born October 6, 1844 in Denmark, and died September 17, 1911 in Steele Co. (Source: Minnesota Death Certificate, CertID# 1911-MN-013700.). He married JOHANNA JEPSON, daughter of PETER JEPSON. She was born September 26, 1863 in Denmark, and died June 27, 1939 in (Rice Co.) (Source: Minnesota Death Certificate, CertID# 1939-MN-013304.).

Notes for HANCE ANDERSON YULE:
Hans Yuhl owned 80 acres of land in Merton Township according to the "Steele County Landowners of Record - 1879."

1900 Census -- Steele County
Yule, Y400 93B Hans 55, Margret 38, Herbert 15, William 12, Lizzie 9
Yule, Y400 94A Nettie 5

1910 Census -- Steele County
Yule, Y400 238A Hans 65, Johanna 48, William 23, Lizzie 19, Nettie 17

More About HANCE ANDERSON YULE:
Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery in Owatonna Township (Steele Co.)
Occupation: Farmer in Minnesota
Residence: 1879, Merton Township, Steele Co.

More About JOHANNA JEPSON:
Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery in Owatonna Township (Steele Co.)

Children of HANCE YULE and JOHANNA JEPSON are:
i. MINNIE IONA YULE, d. November 9, 1921, Rice Co. (married William Sexter)
ii. ANDREW H. YULE, b. November 13, 1878, Merton Township, MN (Steele Co.); d. September 24, 1919, Owatonna Township, MN (Steele Co.) Died of the Spanish influenza. (married Nina Eliza Hale)
iii. THOMAS YULE, b. October 9, 1880, Minnesota; d. April 1970. (married Carrie Larkey)
iv. HUBERT YULE, b. July 22, 1884; d. March 3, 1910, train accident.
v. WILLIAM H. YULE, b. 1888; d. September 4, 1943, Rice Co. (married Mabel Williams)
vi. ELIZABETH YULE, b. Abt. 1891. (married Charles Kilborne)
vii. NETTIE YULE, b. Abt. 1893. (married William Blythe)

The Census information is from a Steele County GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mn/steele/steele.html

The death dates with certificate numbers come from online information at the Minnesota Historical Society Death Certificate Search page: http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm

I see you are spelling Johanna's last name as Jebson, the spelling we're using Jepson is only antecdotal, do you have more information on this family (area of Wisconsin, etc.)? Do you have clues as to when they all came to the U.S.? Since they are in the 1879 Steele County atlas (where Yule is spelt Yuhl), we can interpret they come before then. Actually looking at the census might have clues because some schedules give the number of years in the country. You had the infomation on Andrew Yule and Mary Opilla, how did you come by that? Any ideas on where in Denmark they came from?

Cheers,
Janet

Do you have information on this Peter's parents and/or grandparents? Since Johanna Jepson was born in 1863 (I have "about 1832" for her father Peter's birthdate), your Peter could be a child of one of her brothers.

What other information on your Peter Jepson do you have? Do you have a birthdate? Did he come over alone or with his parents?

My Peter Jepson was indeed born in Denmark on Dec. 9, 1867 and his father was Jappe Jepson and Louise Nelson according to the information on his death certificate which was filled out by his wife. He was also a veteran of WWI.
