THOMAS YUILLE

The Name "Zuill" or "Zuile" ("Yuille")

This derivation of our common ancestoral Name
is one which is peculiar to the post settlers
of "Yell", of the old territories of Ireland
and Scottland. The "Yo" or "Yu" made a number
of dialectic changes over time, one of which
was the "Zo" or "Zu". This change most probably
did stem from Anglo influence in the region, but
but must have been isolated for sometime there-
after in order to maintain its particular
dialectic. This dialectic change is not unique,
there have been many dialectic changes in the
history and evolution of our Family Name. You
might also look for the "Zw" and "Iu" spellings
in the old territories of Ireland and Scottland.

Among Thomas Yuille's descendants are the famous Yuille sisters of the 1920s, all daughters of Thomas B Yuille of Virginia and New York: Susan Burks Yuille, Emily Yuille, and Nancy Yuille. All are now deceased.

Burks married Carroll Carstairs, a noted Manhattan art dealer; no issue.

Emily married Wolcott Blair, a socialite; one son, Watson (later became stepfather of fashion designer Mary McFadden).

Nancy married 1934 the 6th Earl of Dunraven and Mount Earl, an Irish peer; one daughter, Caroline.
