There are volumes of Youell archives at WL University in Lexington, VA. They are the result of many years of research by a Naomi Nielsen from Kansas. It would take several days to properly look through it all.

Sorry for the confusing message...long busy day late at night etc etc
I am in the UK and have a Youell family tree going back to 1573
Am really interested in the archives you mentioned. How can I find out more about it and maybe tie in any connections from this side of the Pond?

Maybe this will help. Washington Lee is a university in Lexington, Virginia, U.S.A. Go to any search engine and type in the name, and you should get a web site for the school. There are volumes of these books. My husband and I have been twice, and still haven't gotten through them all. The researcher's name was Naomi Youell Nielson. She has passed away. She traced the tree back to Sterling, Scotland at which point I do believe leads dried up. Her research is quite extensive. My husband's (4X) great grandfather (William) started the Youell branch in our area by settling here from Scotland with a land grant. The original home remains, and has been updated. If any of your information is available, we would be interested in seeing it!

I also trace my family to William Youel, through his son James George Wilson Youel. I carried on a correspondance with Mrs. Naomi Neilson for many years. Would like to hear from any of you. E mail; MaggieJWL@aol.com

I am just getting started on my Grandmother's family and we haven't got much. Gram's mother was Sara Youell, daughter of a Mordicae P. and a venus lewis (andress) youell. I believe she was born in N.Y. and moved to Michigan when she was nine. She married Henry Warner and at some point they moved to Lyons, Kansas. Does this information fit in with anything you have? Any help would be appreciated. Judi

I am a descendant of this family through William Nelson Youel and his wife Jane Berry. They went to Mace, IN and then on to near Shellsburg, IA, where they are buried. Naomi Youel Nielsen descended from my great-great-grandfather's brother. Naomi was born Naomi Mae Youel on 27 Dec 1905 at Leblanc, NE, 16 miles east of Niobrara, NE and died on 21 Feb 1987 at Lyons, KS. There used to be a family organization--Youel Care, a family newsletter "The Youel Log," and family reunions every two years. Unfortunately that all ended with the death of my grandmother's cousin Kenneth Youel. That was also when I was just starting my fascination at genealogy.

Anyone near the archives? My parents tried to go there in September of 2000 while on vacation; however my dad suddenly died while they were driving there on the interstate near Abingdon. I still hope to take my mother there sometime.

Any other descendants of the William Youel and Elizabeth Nelson monitoring this board? If so, feel free to email me at gary@allinderlee.com

I was interested in your posting. My Dad's grandmother was Ruth Youell Warner. ( I know that on my previous posting I said Sarah but that was my grandmother.). She was the d/o Mordicae Youell and Venus Sherlewis Andress, and was born in Nunda, New York, 1853. They moved to Michigan where she married Henry Warner in 1873. They subsequently moved to Lyons, Rice County, Kansas where they died and are buried, along with several descendants in Graceland Cemetary. Ruth had two brothers, Peter and Abrams/Abraham. Judi

Surnames: Youell, Lee
I have been able to trace my mothers lineage back to a Thomas Youell and Ann Sturman circa early 1600's. They had a son named Thomas who married an Ann Lee, d/o Richard Henry Lee and Ann Constable Owen.
What is really strange about this is I have also been able to trace my fathers' father and mother back to this saame Richard Henry Lee and Ann C Owen. It appears that Richard and Ann had a number of children and I descend from 3 of their children Charles,William and Ann going back 12 generations.
It is beginning to amaze me just how many people I share a common thread with sometime over the last 400 years.
