I am trying to find information on my great-great-grandfather, Dominic(o) Yosco (possibly Iosco) who was born in Italy (unsure of date). He married a girl named Maria and had a son, Robert Joseph was born in Italy in 1873. (I am not sure if there were any siblings.)

When Robert later emigrated to Brooklyn, New York he changed his family name at Ellis Island since his real name was hard for people to pronounce. He went into Vaudeville wrote many ragtime songs.

If anyone has any info...please contact me immediately as i have hit a brick wall have no further info!

Thanks!

Hello,
My father was born in Paterson/Clifton area in 1917. His father died shortly after his birth. The family base is out of Naples, Italy, which was spoken in the home (perhaps first generation USA). If this info is useful please let me know. I've been trying to trace the family roots for quite some time.
Thank you,
Gary

Gary,

Thanks so much for writing!! I was just giving up hope that ANY other person would research this name!! My ggrandfather was Robert Yosco. He immigrated at around age 4 circa 1874 with his parents, Domenico & Maria. Naples might be a possible point of origin for my family as well, but that's one of the mysteries I've been trying to solve thru genealogy! :P

Please email me at SouxieQ@aol.com with further details...I'm dying of curiosity!!

Look forward to hearing from you,

~Susan :}

Hey you might be a relative of mine. This information that the Yosco's could be from Naples puts my suspicions that we're somewhere from the main part of Italy because I know we're from Sicily too.

What information can you share? None of my Iosco/Yosco family were from Sicily, however.

Surnames: Yosco, Iosco, Iosca, Josca, Josco, Tosco, Tosca, Losco, Losca
I just realized that I never updated my posting once I located the town from which my family immigrated. It is called Castelmezzano, located in Basilicata. I've located records tracing the family back to the late 1700s there, but hope to obtain further documentation from the Church there one day. I've had to rely on the records made available by the LDS which only begin in 1809.
The name was originally Iosco or Iosca, but I've seen it incorrectly listed as Josco/a, Tosco/a, Losco/a, amongst others. My Great-Grandfather's parents immigrated with (at least) him circa 1878 to NYC, but I've not been able to locate their passenger list after searching for 10 years.

any ideas about where your Yoscos originated? Did they live in NY ever, or just NJ?

If you give me the name of your Grandfather or Great-Grandfather and their year of birth, perhaps I can help as I've obtained a lot of records for Yoscos over the years, but not all related directly to me. Do you have a tree online?
