hi, how are you? i am decended from malcolm fleming the weaver from cookstown, derryloran, tyrone , ireland and further a decendant of william fleming, one of four brothers to have settled in hunterdon county new jersey. i am also an electronics engineer and deal in fiber optic communication and hence, i study material that deals with such. i read a an article that indicated that thomas edison had invented laser optics and that he thought it just a childs toy and he put it on the shelf and went on to further inventions. then 3 years later, his assistant, JOHN ATWOOD FLEMING, took it off the shelf and investigated further and developed the first co-herent light beam and then later two others developed it further and in the 60's there was a huge surge of laser optical development. Could this be the same person you are looking for?

Hi Richard, the John Atwood Fleming(gg/grandfather), was born in 1829 died in 1908.The second John Atwood(my g/father),was born in 1870 died in 1937.It is strange you should mention Edison, because I read that a Church in Shamokin(where they came from)had a church which had the first electric lights.I think it was St. Edwards. We do know that Henry Fleming(gg/grandfather),father of John Atwood the first, was a builder of church's in that area(at least 3).But they were Methodist church's.John was a Methodist and I saw his sunday school book from a church in Trevorton, which is outside of Shamokin. My g/father's faith is unknown, but neither him or my g/mother or the rest down from him are buried in Shamokin Cemetery, and John Atwood(his dad) and G/grandmom are buried in Irish Valley Methodist cemetery. Its all very confusing. Will look into this some more.Thank you for the reply.

My GGGrandfather was Jacob Yordy(b-1804 and he had a daughter Harriet that was born in 1831. I see where she and her husband built a church in Trevorton. I live near Treverton. Do you know the name of the church and an address. Maybe I could go there. Do you think any of the "family" would be buried there? There was a mention of them also being involved with another church in the Lancaster area.
