Surnames: Yorba
Bernardo & Maria Yorba had 5 children according to Ed Hoff's Jose Antonio Yorba Descendants. Their first son, Bernardo Antonio Yorba II married Julia Dryden, they had two children, Bernardo Yorba "Benny" & Beatrice Arnaz Yorba (my great grandmother). My question is: On Ed's list, under my Great Uncle Benny's name if a son Bernardo "Ben" Yorba IV. Benny died when he was quite young, in his 20's in Singapore. He had no children. Just wondering who these descendant Yorba children are. Are they real or have they been misplaced on the list. Under Beatrice Arnaz Yorba there are no children listed, but here I am and that's were myself & a few others should be listed, so there are mistakes on this list. Also any info on Julia Dryden's family would be helpful, thanks.

Ed hoff's list is not conplete. please dont think that it is wrong, there are just a few places that things are not added. I have found that my family is not listed there either. we are in the process of sending the information to Ed Hoff so that it may be added. But you have to have the verification that that is where your family belongs. This is where I have run into the problems since most of my family is dead and it is hard to find all the evidance. So far i think that Ed Hoffs page is the most detailed if not hard to understand.
If you have all of your family information send it to Ed Hoff and he will be sure to add it to the correct place. good luck

Hi,

The information I have is Julia Dryden (b. 1860) was the dau. of William Dryden and Ana Josefa Juliana Dominguez. Dyden was originally from Kentucky. He was a judge and also involved in the Los Angeles Water Co. Ana Josefa (b. 1829) was the eldest dau. of Don Manuel and Dona Maria Engracia Dominguez. She married very late in life and he marriage was short in duration as the seventy-year-old Dryden died of a heart attack less than a year later. Julia was their only child.

Julia married Bernardo Yorba (b. 1855) 28 Sep 1878 at the Los Angeles Plaza Church. I show their children as:
Francisco Xavier
Bernardo M. Yorba III
Beatrice Arnaz

I just want to clear this branch up, so many mistakes.

Starting with Judge William G Dryden (1807-1869) married on 30 Nov 1851 Dolores Nieto (1830-1863). They had two daughters, Guadalupe L Dryden (1854-1885) and Julia B Dryden (1860-1900). After Dolores Nieto died the judge married Ana Josefa "Anita" Dominguez (1828-1907) on 30 Sept 1868. They had no children. William dropped dead of a heart attack in their parlor a week before their 1st wedding anniversary. Anita continued to raise the two Dryden sisters until they themselves got married.

Guadalupe L Dryden married Luis A Arnaz (1854-1920)in 1876. They had two children William J Arnaz (1878-1940) & Dolores Lola Arnaz (1880-1965).

William married Minerva Gaffney they had two children but no offspring (their was an adoption though, but no further descendants from Guadalupe's branch).

Lola Arnaz married Arthur Bernardo Yorba (1877-1970). Arthur was the son of Teodosio J Yorba (1849-1926). Teodosio was from the 2nd family of Don Bernardo A Yorba (1801-1858) and Felipa Dominquez (1812-1851). Lola & Arthur had no children but raised my grandmother Julia, which I will get to in a moment.

Julia B Dryden, the other daughter of Judge Dryden married in 1878 Bernardo A Yorba II (1855-1888). Bernardo II was the son of Don Bernardo Yorba and his 3rd wife Andrea Elisalde (1830-1909). Julia & Bernardo II had three children. (I know what some of you might be thinking but I've researched this family extensively and have letters and such to verify this. On the 1880 census it shows an Antonia Dryden age 10. She was an adopted daughter and there is no further mention of her in any letters, nothing other than this census. Also it shows a son William 1 year, now this has stumped me for sometime. Because their one son Bernardo A Yorba III or Benny and who was born in 1879 does not show up on the 1880 census which he should have. So someone made a mistake. The Dryden sisters did not name both their first born males, who were born within 15 months of each other, William. William Yorba has never been mentioned in any family stories.)Also, after Bernardo Yorba II died, Julia married Eduardo Bernardo Olivera (1861-1920)for just a short time until her death. No offspring.

So, the children of Julia Dryden & Bernardo Yorba II:

Bernardo A Yorba III Benny (1879-1904)he died in Shanghai of small pox. He had a Dental practice there. Was never married and no children.

Francisco Xavier Yorba (1881-1881) died as an infant.

Beatrice A Yorba (1883-1955)married James N Arnaz (1876-1947) they had one child, my grandmother, Julia C Arnaz (1902-1989). Julia later changed her name to Jewell Yorba. At the age of 5 she was given to Lola & Arthur Yorba who raised her as their own. Beatrice married Paul L Johnson (1875-1942) at that same time. They had no children.

Julia Jewell Arnaz Yorba married Fred DuPuis (1903-1973)they had one child, my mother, Donna D DuPuis (1927- ). Donna had two daughters, my sister and myself.

So if you can follow all this, which really is a big circle of two families which starts with the Dryden sisters; my sister & I are the last from this branch and that's probably why there are so many mistakes, but I've corrected them now.

If you have any questions, please ask.

I too sent Ed several emails regarding my family branch along with verifications, he said when he had the time he would change it. He never did and you can no longer find the Hoff, Jose Antonio Yorba Descendants website. I made several copies of his database while it was up and am slowly making corrections as I find them. It's a big family. One day, I hope to be able to post Ed & Howard Hoff's database on the Yorba Descendants with corrections.
