Crystal, this is Krista. I just stumbled on your entry. Have you had any success in finding anything further? Email me at trenco1@netzero.net. I'm just getting started in looking at our family history. I forgot your mom told me you were looking into this. I have some leads from the Yorba Linda Library via online.

Re: looking for the conection to the yorba's
Hello Cousin!!! (about a 120th probably)
My GGGG-Grandfather was Don Bernardo Yorba. His last wife, Davila ( I can't remember her first name, I am not my mother,) was my GGGG-Grandmother.
My mother is Patricia Wilkes-Velasco, who is a retired/active member of the Native Daughter's of the Goldenwest. My mother is the researcher of the family, and as we grew up, we learned about our history in Orange County. I am a ninth generation Californian and proud of it. I'm not sure of her e-mail address, but she would have "all/everyone's" answers.
She has traveled extensivly around the world collecting info on our huge, huge family.
When I bought my condo in Anaheim Hills, she made a joke about it. She said, well you were able to buy back some of our property. I jokingly said, yeah and I got 1100 sq ft and it only cost me $150,000.00.

Re: looking for the conection to the yorba's
well this is what I have found out so far...as for proof, well that is another story that will take forever to explain! my grandmother is the daughter of Celeste Yorba and Alexander Burmudez.Celeste was marred a total of 4 times, Alexander being her last husband. Celeste Yorba is the daughter of Miguel Yorba and Avalina Avila. We think that Miguel yorba is the son of Tomas Antonio Yorba. We beilve this due to the fact that Miguel Yorba is the only one that I have found that died the same year as we know that our Miguel died, in 1904. Now the Miguel Yorba on the Ed Hoffs page does not have any family listed with it, But that does not mean that this is not our family line. If you have any information that can help me proove all of this it would be uch appreciated. I know that my grandmother can get a copy of Celeste's baptismal certifacte. she also has her birth cert. but we dont have any record of Miguel that I know of. so that is where I am...If your mom or anyone else has done any reserch or has any other information I would love to have it. Thank you

Hi Jackie (2nd cousin I think)
I am just starting to look at family web info for the first time. My grandfather is Alberto Yorba, sister of my Aunt Esper(anza). Nice to meet you. You probably have been in contact with other cousins (especially Hutains). There are a lot of us.
Nice to meet you.

Hi Crystal (cousin)
Tomas Antonio Yorba was an alcalde (Mayor) and juez de paz (Justice of the Peace) in Santa Ana, California.
Alfred Robinson(*) gives a description of a passing visit at the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana in 1830. "The proprietor, Don Tomas Yorba, a tall, lean, personage, dressed in all the extravagance of his country's costume, received us at the door of his house. He came towards us, embraced Gale and his compadre,(**) Don Manuel, took me cordially by the hand, and invited us to enter. Arrangements were soon made for dinner, which, notwithstanding the haste with which it was served, did much credit to the provider, as did our appetites to its excellent qualities. (* Robinson: Life in California, p. 42-3) (** The term compadre implies more than the relationship of friend or benefactor. It denotes a closer association, a somewhat sacred relationship, as that of godfather and godmother, not only in its relationship to the child, but to each other.)
"Don Tomas and friend Gale then commencing a business conversation, I got up from the table and retreated to the corridor, where I could study, unobserved, the character and appearance of our host. Upon his head he wore a black silk handkerchief, the four corners of which hung down his neck behind. An embroidered shirt, a cravat of white jaconet tastefully tied, a blue damask vest, short clothes of crimson velvet, a bright green cloth jacket, with large silver buttons, and shoes of embroidered deer skin, comprised his dress. I was afterwards informed by Don Manuel, that on some occasions such as some particular feast day or festival his entire display often exceeded in value a thousand dollars."
Another source of information is: Temple, Thomas W. II. & M. R. Harrington [translator] “Will of Don Tomas Antonio Yorba, Year of 1845†in The Historical Society of Southern California Quarterly, vol. 33, nos. 1-2, pp. 66-73.
Tomas was one of the sons of Don Jose Antonio Yorba I. My family is descended from him also through Jose Antonio II.
best wishes, cousin William Dean
