What is the origin of the Yopp name? anyone know?
Hello! I am a Yopp by birth.. my dads name is John Yopp...... we have always wondered where the name comes from! My family originates from Macon, Georgia.... I would love to hear from you.......

They immigrated from Germany. Earliest Yopp name I have found is listed as born in Va. 1723.Ancestory.com will give a fairly accurate list of lineage. Although as it get to the last 50 years becomes very inaccurate as to living Yopps. My grandfather was Samuel Freeman Yopp Jr. All but two of his six daughters are deceased including my mother Jean. They are listed as living.Hope this helps some. Pam

Pam Have you ever heard the name Jopp? We were told while in Germany, there was a family feud and some changed the "J" to "Y". My husband has a cousin of the last name of Jopp. Been trying to find out history of his family.
My husbands name is Fred, his dad was Sherman Yopp. The family moved from Beach, ND to Hamilton, Mt. There were 5 sisters, but working on the names. Have you heard any of this info. Thanks Rickie Yopp East Wenatchee, Wa Rickie Yopp East Wenatchee, Wa

No Rikki, I haven't. I have heard that the Yopp's were of German descent and I know that a lot of the German immigrants changed the spelling of their names when they came here. My grandfather on my father's side did.His name originally was Minski and he changed it to Minnic. If you know how and when they came here there is a list of ships on Ancestry.com somewhere that has the ships manifest. Also, there is a list of people coming in to Ellis Island and several other places that slip my mind right now, where these immigrants landed and had to register. If I do hear of anything I'll forward that information to you. Good Luck, Pam

Do you know where the name Yoppini originated? I was told that Yoppini comes from Switzerland (Swiss-Italian). That name is so closely the same as Yopp that I wondered if the both are connected?
