Hi,

Thanks for the info on Mary Ellen's parents - I think I was trying to figure out if she was one of my Weathersbys or belonged to the "other" Weathersbys. It looks like she isn't one of mine, at least not closely. Thanks for that clarification.

I don't have any info on the Yon family. So sorry!

Happy Researching ~

Carol

Hi Richard,

Thanks for repying to my post. On a recent trip to New York city I stopped by St Patrick's Cathedral and was hoping to find something about Pietro but I had no luck.

My grandfather's name was Guilio Yon he was born in Tavagnasco, Italy Sep 1880. Tavagnasco is a small village across the river from Settimo Vittone, Italy. Guilio's father's name was Gioanni Antonio Yon. Guilio's mother was Lucia Ghi. My great grandfather Gioanni Antonio Yon's father was Givanni Yon, mother was Antonia Gionetti.

I think now that maybe Guilio's dad and Pietro's dad were the cousins but I haven't had time to do the search. As a child Guilio was taught how to play the clarinet by his uncles who were very musical. as an adult he would play in the town bands where he lived at the time.

There were not a lot of Yon's in that area so I think they were all related somehow. One family story was that they came from France 3 or 4 generations before my grandfather I am not sure how factual this is. If you have any information about Pietro's ancestors I would be very interested in sharing family stories and information.

You can contact me directly at bluecountry2@yahoo.com

Regards,

Lori

Yes, this does sound like my father. My father, according to what was read to me as young girl, was that he hung himself in an apartment behind the Calhoun County Courthouse. He was married to Sara Jane Yon.

My paternal grandmothers other name weas Estelle Yon. She was married to a Yon, I believe a George Yon, that died serving in a war, I'm not really sure. My father had brothers named Pewee Mitchell, Jimmy Mitchell, and sisters named Linda Young, Ellen Glass, Patricia.

Looking for connections to my great grandmother Mary Ellen Yon. I don't know anything about her except she married Theodore Lutz, whom I don't know anything about either. They had two children, a daughter Pat Izzy Lutz and a son James Ethelbert Lutz. James used the birth date Sept 13, 1914 and was born in Acherman, Michigan. James and his sister Pat were put in an orphanage at an early age. I was told that this orphanage burned down and with it all the records. My grandfather James (Jimmy is what everyone called him) told my grandmother that he was full blooded Chippewa but, he may have only been half. I know that his sister Pat lived in Cheboygan, Michigan. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Rebecca

I am not sure if Jesse Yon Jr served in the Georgia 60th, but anything is possible. I have not found him in any of the Florida units. I’ll try to follow up on this the next time I make it to the Georgia Archives.

Thank you for the offer of help! I am still looking for the parents of Jesse Yon Sr. as well as the circumstances surrounding the death of several of his children, including Terrell Higdon Yon (b.1820 Georgia) and Jesse Yon Jr.

I can send you copies of the documents I listed in my previous post if you would like them. Just email me at floridayon@yahoo.com

Take care…
Thank you so much! Yes, this matches my information. However, I did not have the information about the jurors, thus implicating his 1865 death. I found muster records for a Jesse Yon in the Georgia 60th Infantry, and he was born in 1835. I can find no other Jesse Yon born that year, so I am wondering if this could be my Yon. That Jesse Yon was a prisoner of war and injured several times. It lists him as a private. I do not know if doctors at that time were privates or not. The records end in 1964. I often see Terrell Higdon Yon. Is there anything you are looking for?

Just for clarification, the Jesse Yon referenced in my original post was the father of Dr. Jesse Yon Jr., who was the father of Braxton L. Yon. I don’t have too much on Jesse Yon Jr. or any of his descendants.

What I do have is that Jesse Yon Jr. married Sarah E. Lott, daughter of Luke Lott and Ann M. Thomas, sometime before the 1860 census. Jesse and Sarah had two sons that I know of: William J. Yon (born about 1859) and Braxton L. Yon (born 03/26/1864 and died 08/7/1956). Does this information match what you have?

I think Jesse Yon Jr. died sometime in 1865. He is listed on the 1864 Fall Term Juror List for the Calhoun County Circuit Court at Abe Springs Bluff. In the 1866 Fall Term of the Calhoun County Circuit Court there was a statement signed by Sarah E Yon where she was listed as Administratrix for Jesse Yon (Jr.), deceased, regarding a case between a Robert Johnson and James B. Stone. (James B. Stone was married to Jesse Yon Jr’s sister, Jincy Yon).

Like you I can offer no cause as to Dr. Jesse Yon Jr’s death, only speculation. Several members of Jesse Yon Sr.’s extended family died during the War, including my great great great Grandfather, Terrell Higdon Yon (b. 1820 Laurens County, Georgia and died in late 1863 or early1864).

I hope this helps.

I am the great great great granddaughter of Dr. Jesse Yon (born 1835, died between 1860 and 1870) and Sarah E. Lott. I can find no cause of death for Jesse, but the Civil War is a logical thing to examine. Sarah went on to marry Enoch Lee. Any information about this family would be so helpful. I am particularly interested in Braxton's daughter, Annie, who had my grandmother, Mattie Lou in June 1908. The person we were always told was her father cannot be because he is listed as single and elsewhere in 1910 census, and Annie Yon is listed as widowed/divorced. Thank you!!!

I have come across your father’s name several times in my research, but unfortunately I have not connected him to anyone yet. I have his birth and death dates as born on June 10, 1954, and died January 22, 1985 in Calhoun County, Florida. Is this your father?

Do you know if he is any relation to a Dowling “Pete” Joseph Yon, born March 12, 1921 and died August 29, 1999? This individual is buried in Shady Grove Cemetery in Jackson County, Florida.

Do you know your paternal grandmother’s maiden name? Any other information you can provide could be useful in tracking your father’s origins.

He had at least one brother (Allen C. Yon of Ocala, FL) He was married to Cleo Bush and had 2 children, Susie (my mom) and Paul. My grandfather lived in Lake Butler, FL for my entire life. I know his father's name was Malachi (Malichi) Yon and his mother's name was Jesse Godwin. I do know that he served in the US Army during WWII.

If anyone has come across any of the above names please contact me as I am at a dead end.
I am looking for some information on Malachi Yon. I don't know much about him. I know that he had at least 2 sons. One was Paul Yon (my grandfather) and the other one was Allen C. Yon aka Bill. Malachi was born on or about Aug 1, 1875 and died on or about April 1968 in Cottondale, FL. From what I have gathered he was married to a Jesse Godwin (Goodwin) who was born on or about Dec 17, 1893 and died on or about Nov 1982 in Century, FL. If anyone has any information on either one of these two please email me @ bcg1970@yahoo.com. Thanks

George Adam Yan received 150 acres of land in South Carolina through the Bounty Act of 1761, which was enacted by the colonial General Assembly to attract Protestant refugees to the colony. On page 60 of Council Journal 36 (pp. 842-846) dated October 17, 1766, George Adam Yan was among numerous applicants for warrants of survey on their bounty land. On page 762 it is noted that "The Petitioners also set forth that they were protestants arrived in this province in the ship Britannia from Amsterdam on the encouragement and Bounty given by the Act of the General Assembly passed the 25th, July 1761."
