I am looking for anyone related to my Maternal Grandfather, I believe his name is Claude Yokley. He was never married to my Grandmother and died young possibly between 1935 and 1945 when he returned home to TN from serving in the military. He is believed to be of american indian ancestry, possibly Cherokee. His parents could be Earnest (Ernest) and (Tilda?) Yokley. There are most likely siblings to Claude who may or may not know he fathered a child in 1929. There is a good possibility that Claude is related to Sophronia (Yokley) Smith,Sophie Yokley or Sam Yokley (Sophronia's father) all of TN. If any of these Yokley names rings a bell or if you believe you can help me in my search to find members of this family please email me.

I just found your message and I an the great granddaughter of Sophronia Yokley --daughter of Sam Yokley and spouse of William Calvin Yokley.

I do not have a lot of information but I hope to go to Giles County soon to do more research.

I will look for grave stones etc. and in the court house when I go if I can be of help I will.

Please tell me about the possibility of Indian descent----
I have found information which shows decendency from the Powhantan? thru Veneable Brown but I know [I believe] there must a more recent Indian Ancestor.

My e-mail is dollarcotton@gmail.com
Please write if you see this

My great grandmother was Sophronia Yokley Smith. I know she was the daughter of Sam who was the son of Andrew.
Please tell me where the Indian comes in---I would so love to know.

Any information I have I will share---I fear you may be disappointed since I haven't a lot but constantly trying to add.

There are many Yokleys in Gles County, TN.which is in Middle TN close to the Southern TN border.
Both black and white races are present but I am unsure if any of Indian descent. I simply do not know.
I do know that Andrew was a prominent family name.
