It has been a number of years since I have worked on my family tree. I am stuck in the same place I was 6 years ago. My GGG Grandfather was Michael Yohe. I found him, his wife Mary and their children in the 1850 census for Tipton Co. Indiana. The census shows they he and his wife born in PA. One child was born in PA, 6 in Ohio and 2 in Indiana including my GG Grandfather, Marion Washington Yohe. The 1850 census also listed a 64 y/o Elizabeth Yohe in the household. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone may have on Michael and Mary and their parents. - Tim Yohe

For Tim Yohe Inquiry.

I have researched the Yohe family and have the Yohe's complete from 1930's in Elwood, Indiana back through Marion Washington and then, Michael and then, Issac in PA, then Michael in Germasny, and then George, Hans, in Germany about 1693.
I can be of much help to you. Call me at 859 873-0661 in Versailles, KY. or e-mail: lmcacour@aol.com.

My 1st cousin is Shirley Yohe, b 1935 in Elwood, IN and she is a great granddaughter of Marion Washington Yohe.I believe you and Shirley are 3rd cousins.

Following is a repeat of a message I posted on the "Michael Yohe Legacy from 1847 to 1932" thread; it seemed appropriate to re-post it here:

There were two Michael Yohes who were Revolutionary War patriots -- the Michael (1746-1832) who lived in Easton and eventually moved to Washington County, and a Michael (1748-1785) who lived in York County; said to have been born in Bavaria.

The second Michael had a son Michael (1770-1832), who married Catharina Raffensperger; they lived in Adams County, PA and had 10 children. One of these was Michael, Jr. born between 1801 and 1810. He shows up in Adams County, PA in the 1830 census as Michael Yoe Jr., married, no children; but I don't find him there after that. I have found no marriage record for "Junior."

Would it be possible that "Junior" is the Indiana Michael? As I recall, the Indiana census documents give a birthdate of about 1807. But the Elizabeth listed on the 1850 Indiana census is a bit of a monkey-wrench in the works.

"Junior" did have an Aunt Elizabeth, but all I know about her is that she existed. It is possible, but not likely, that she was born as late as 1786; Michael's father died in April of 1785. His mother (also Elizabeth) subsequently married Peter Zollinger (and, later, Joseph Heiner). Peter Zollinger's will mentions his step-daughter Elizabeth Yoe. It stretches the limits of credibility to suggest that this is the Indiana Elizabeth, though.

Although Michael (1748) was said to have been born in Bavaria, my searching has turned up no immigration record for him. Could he be the son of John George, who was born in Germany in about 1714, immigrated in 1737, and lived in Reading, PA? Some sources say this is the case. John George did have a son Michael, probably born before 1750, who doesn't appear to have stayed in the immediate Berks County area.

Y-DNA from John George's line does not match that from the line of the Washington County Michael; but if these postulated connections are correct, Y-DNA from the Indiana Michael's line should be a fairly close match to that of other males from the John George line.

I have references for the cited documents if anyone is interested.

The Tipton County Michael shows up in the 1840 census in Montgomery County OH (Dayton area) as Michael Yoey. Number of children and their ages are consistent with the 1850 census in Tipton County.
