I have an old Bible which includes a handwritten inscription (in Hebrew) in its front cover. I've recently had a friend translate it. It reads:
"To my great-grandson Abraham Isaac Yoffe for his second birthday, I give this bible as a souvenir for eternity.
From this bible, which is the book of books, draw my great-grandson courage, hope, and belief, because the eternity of Israel shall not lie. [This is a Hebrew expression which means that you should put you trust in god, and he will prevail. Not sure how this translates to English.]
Keep the traditions of your ancestors, be proud of your Jewishness, help your brothers whenever you can, and continue the long tradition of your two-thousand years old people.
God will keep you safe and will be kind to you,
Your senior grandmother, who wishes you all the best,
[I could not figure out the name]
The Land of the Jews, Tel Aviv, July 7, 1942"
The book is the Torah, Neviim, Ktuvim [TNK, i.e. the Old Testament]). Very accurate according to tradition. Sinai Publication: Tel Aviv
