Hello there.
Just now re-visiting my early Yoes families and came upon your query. Thought to answer your question in case you are still interested.
This Nancy (nee England) was married 1st to James Lawrence. They were neighbors to the elder Jacob Yoes and his wife Mary (her maiden name as unknown). James Lawrence died. Mary, assumed 1st wife of the elder Jacob, died sometime between the 1850 census enumeration and 25 Aug 1851 when the elder Jacob Yoes married (assumed 2nd time) to the widow Nancy Lawrence in Washington CO, AR. The elder Jacob died (intestate) on/abt 24 July 1854 Washington CO AR per his estate filing. It is believed that all of his children were by his 1st wife (Mary).
Inn 1870 (about 16 years lafter his death), papers were filed in WA CO AR by some of the heirs of the elder Jacob who were living in Oregon.. these records do document some of his grandchildren (children of his daughter Mary).
My ancestor, was his daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth is believed to be this eldest child. Elizabeth married Joseph Skeen. Elizabeth's sister Mary married to John Skeen the brother of this Joseph Skeen. So siblings married to siblings.
A little background.
In the early 1970s Ernest Yoes set out to document the various Yoes families in the US and systematically tried to contact all Yoes families by looking in phone books (across the US). He then sent out inquiries, compiled the data he received, and then tried to figure the US Yoes migration. Regarding this 'elder Jacob Yoes' family... he wrote the following. Unfortunately, there are errors in some of his assumptions, and so some of the confusion listed in many of the online trees you see today. The errors due to the fact that there were 3 Jacob Yoes men about this area during this time period. AND three of the Yoes men (2 of these Jacobs)(the two younger Jacobs) married Reed sisters.
Extracted from the NOTEs E.C. Yoes, Nov 1973 [Brackets are my comments and corrections]:
"...JACOB YOES (the elder) is the oldest YOES member that I know who lived in Arkansas. According to the 1850 CENSUS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, JACOB was born in North Carolina about 1789 [all census listings confirm this birth year]. His children from about 1825 on were born in Arkansas indicating he arrived there prior to that time [his 1st 2 children, both girls, born 1818 & 1822 in MO. He appears in Howard CO MO tax list 1817]. I believe, based on things I have read and heard, that JACOB went through Virginia [no record to date shows he was in VA], Tennessee [some indication he was in TN], and Missouri before settling near West Fork, Washington County, Arkansas. JACOB was listed as a farmer and owned a good portion of the land in Section Tp. 15 North, Range 30 West, and other lands. I believe he had at least seven children as indicated on the "tree", page II-4 [this tree II-4 contains errors and includes the Rev Conrad Yoes as the elder Jacob's son?!]. It is not clear who was JACOB's first wife and the mother of his children. Marriage records indicate a JACOB YOES married MARY REED on 17 January 1850 [this assumed to be be Jacob 'Red' Yoes s/o the elder Jacob, and this marriage record in error lists Mary Reed should read Sarah Reed]. The 1850 census indicates JACOB's wife was named Mary [ the elder Jacob listed as Jacob Ewes & not Yoes]. Marriage records also indicate a JACOB YOES married NANCY LAWRENCE on 25 August 1851. JACOB YOES the elder died about 1854 [per his probate he died on/about 24 July 1854] in Washington County, Arkansas, and his wife at his death was named NANCY [nee England, previously the relict of James Lawrence]. I therefore believe he was married at least three times. [The error in the Jan 1850 marr register has caused much confusion for those researching this family. Look at the 1850 census for Jacob 'Red' Yoes. He is married to Sarah (nee Reed). It should also be understood that there were three Jacob Yoes in this area during this time period. The elder Jacob had a son named Jacob who was referred to as 'Jacob 'Red' Yoes (due to the color of his hair). Then Jacob 'Black' Yoes (black was the color of his hair) who was the son of the Rev Conrad Yoes. This Jacob Black Yoes married Mary Reed the sister of Sarah Reed listed above.
To add to the confusion... another son of the elder Jacob Yoes (Enos) married yet another Reed sister ~ Enos married Abigail Reed.]
Interested in exchanging information with anyone researching the various Yoes families.
Hope this helps.
