Hello: It's been over 5 years since your post - I hope you are still interested in the Yoerger line. I am preparing to spend a week in Salt Lake City doing research and hope to unravel the Yoerger mystery. I actually have a copy of a document where my 2nd Great-Grandfather, Ignatius Yoerger signed his name Jorges. With the .. over the O.

He sailed from LeHavre, France - not sure what year but he married Sophia Shutt 10 March. 1837 having settled in Somerset, Ohio. They had 2 children George W (my great-grandfather) and Peter. Sophia died 19 May. 1848 and Enoch re-married a Mary Ann Shireman 3 Jan, 1854. They 4 more children: Albert, John, Margaret and Pius.

If you think we are related or have any further info that might be helpful in our research please contact me at saturnsusie@yahoo.com. I will gladly share any new information I might get in SLC.

I am seeking information about my great-grandfather, William B(enedict?) Yoerger. He was born about 1850 in Alsace Lorraine, immigrated about 1887 and lived in Altus Arkansas, where my grandfather John was born. The family is known to be in Astoria Oregon in the 1910 census. William and his wife Addie, with the younger children, moved to Mount Vernon Washington before 1920. One of my great-uncles said their name was spelled differently in Arkansas and they would be hard to trace. How true! Is it possible there is a connection between your relativea and mine?

It certainly is possible but I have not been able to trace my line back to Europe. My great-great-grandfather was Ignatius Yoerger (spelled Jorges on his Will)was born in Alsace, France on Aug. 11, 1804. His first wife was Sophia Shutt and they had a son George b. 15 March 1844. in Thornville, Ohio. I suppose Ignatius could be a cousin of your ancestor.????

It seems likely that there is some connection, it isn't a common name and Altus Arkansas was never a very big place. Do you have any idea when Ignatius immigrated?

My great-grandfather, William B(enedict?) Yoerger was born in Alsace Lorraine about 1850. He immigrated in 1887 and was living in Altus Arkansas when my grandfather was born in 1893. Could our families be connected somehow?

Does anyone have information on or connections to Francois Anton Joerger/Yoerger and his family? He was born in France and emigrated to New Orleans in 1851. He came to the U.S. with Epidius Joerger, Anastasia Joerger and Stephenie Joerger. F. Anton Joerger went to New York where his name was later changed to Yoerger. His children were George, Elizabeth and Edward Anthony. He also may have had a daughter named Louise. He and his family lived in Manhattan and later Brooklyn. Thanks!
