Worceser, MA, eh? How very interesting...
I don't really know all that much about my grandfather Yodice. His first name was Antonio and my grandmother was Giovanna. Each them was Ioduce. They were distant cousins, or so I have been told. They hail from Caserta, in the Campania region. I have no idea when he emigrated to Brooklyn NY, but he died in 1955. He died before I was born, so I never knew him. He did have two brothers, Nicole and Giovanni, who lived in North Bergen NJ. There was one sister, who stayed in Caserta. As for Grandma Iodice, she died in 1941, when she was 49. She had two sisters, Francesca and Teresina. They emigrated to Bridgeport, CT and married there. Her brother, Franco Iodice, went to Brooklyn and married. He died in 1973.
I doesn't seem to me that any of these people are related, but it fascinating to learn that the Iodice name is all over the map. You say that your grandfather changed his name by choice, but I suspect our name was changed by some Ellis Island official. I find it very frustrating to have this surname, because it not "Italian", as you know. There is no Y in Italian. Indeed, I have no initials in Italian.. there is no J for John nor Y for Yodice, ergo my initials are G.I.
Thanks for the response and I do hope that you will keep in touch.

Please excuse all of the typos. One really does need to preview before one posts. Take care!

Hi John Yodice or Giovanni or Iodice. I have the same problem with the Y, Itze Notitalian... I thank you for your imput. My granpa immigrated to Argentina from Teramo in Abruzzo. I have been to Caserta which has a famous fountain and it is north of Napoli only about half an hour by train or so. Greetings, Arnie ( comes from Arnaldo, my real name, but who can pronounce Arnaldo here? ). Ciao.

Hello, Arnold--
How nice to hear from you! I found your post very interesting. How is that your grandfather emigrated to Argentina? Do you live in the US?
Yes, I have been to Caserta. It was in 21 years ago and I visited first cousins of my father and their children. They were quite wonderful and I loved Caserta. They took me to the Piazza Reale and it was impressive. The gardens were very beautiful.
Thanks very much for writing and take care.

Hi John, I'm replying to a post from you about 6 years old.
I've been working on a family tree for a grand daughter of Francesca Yodice, who reportedly came from Caserta. She indeed moved to Bridgeport, CT and married Nicola Falzarano and had four children that I'm aware of; only one still surviving. Francesca died about 1951 in Bridgeport.
I have a family tree started on Ancestry that I'd be happy to share with you. I can also put you in touch with the grand daughter if you're interested. And lastly if you have any other information, it would be very helpful to me. I can't find any of the Yodice or Falzarano families in any of the censuses. Thanks in advance,
Eileen
Note: I'm not a paid researcher. Just doing this for a friend.

Eileen,
I know exactly who you mean - I just sent a lengthy response which did not go through for whatever reason. Let me give it another try.

OK - here goes.
Francesca is my grandmother's sister. My grandmother, Giovanna, had two sisters in Connecticut - one was Francesca and the other was Terisina. As you point out, Francesca died on January 19, 1951 in Bridgeport. I am sad to say that none of her four children survive - her youngest daughter, Carmela, died in June 2006. Nicola, Francesca's widower, remarried in the early 1950s and did have a son with his second wife. He would be a Falzarano, of course.
I would suspect the woman for whom you are conducting this research is my third cousin - her grandmother and mine, of course, were sisters.
I hope this sheds some light and helps you. I look forward to your reply.
