Re: IssacYoakum,Caroline Wisman
Cora: I think you'll find a bunch of information on George Thomas & Amanda Brown Yoakum and their line in the Y family if you go to www.freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~blogan/ This is a website for the Logan and VanBebber families, but they have a wonderful bunch of information on many Yoakum families. I can look the information on this line up in the HC Smith book but from what I have read, this is one of the areas that he made a lot of mistakes,so that would be a waste of your time. That site will help a lot I'm pretty sure. If you want me to post what HC says I sure don't mind! Let me know if that's any help~ Rajean

Re: IssacYoakum,Caroline Wisman
I am just beginning research on my family line and don't know too much about it yet. My mother was Ruth Yoakum,1926-2000 daughter of Merle Yoakum 1895-1940 and Elsie Denni 1897-1948). Merle is the son of Christopher Columbus Yoakum 1866-1948 and Mary J.(Mollie) 1865-1943. The Havana Public Library has a great research department that called the other day to say Christopher is the son of Edward Yoakum and Hannah. I am waiting eagerly for the mail to arrive showing this so I can keep going backwards. Edward and Hannah also had a son William born abt 1863 and a daughter who comes up as Juelia born abt 1873 in one census, then Nancy J in others. According to what I can find, she also married a McNeal? Hannah is listed in the household as mother-in-law. If any thing I have said is helpful, great. Do you have anything at this time to offer? If info from library works out, I will share.

Re: IssacYoakum,Caroline Wisman
I really messed up on my post.....quite green you see. My great great grandfather was Edward Yoakum who was the third husband of Hannah Wiseman (1828-1902) They married on 12-14-1865. She was also married to Cain Adams on 1-30-1847, and Thomas J McNeal on 12-30-1857. There is also a Hannah Yoakum in the Ill State Marriage Index that married a George C. Watson on 4-12-1886 that I believe may be her. Four daughters were born to Adams; Polly abt 1848, Rebecca abt 1851, Maria abt 1855 and Agnes abt 1856. In the union with McNeal there were children Nancy J. abt 1859, and Riley abt 1861. It appears that Nancy J may have died before her tenth birthday since she is not on the next census and that Riley may have really been William Riley McNeal. In the union with Edward Yoakum, there was a child in 1867 whos name I cannot make out (Geo for George?), Columbus, who was actually Christopher Columbus abt 1865-1948, and Julia abt 1868. The baby, Geo? did not appear on the next census, must have died. There is a writeup about William Yoakum on the Menard site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmenard/index.html/page4.html under the surname profiles and another writeup on Franklin Wiseman...the source of this material is unknown to me or the author of it. In the William Yoakum writeup, it mentions a brother named Edward. Can anyone tell me if this is the Edward Yoakum from above? In the Franklin Wiseman writeup can anyone tell me if she is his sister? Hannah lived it the home of Lewis Weisman (misspelled by census, should be Wiseman) when she and Cain Adams first married (his name is misspelled as Kane on the census)of 1850. I am stuck on this line. Is there a traditional cemetery that most Yoakums in Menard/Mason area used? The Wisemans? Please help if you can. Nancy J. --- nrjackson@insightbb.com

Re: IssacYoakum,Caroline Wisman
The Wiseman and Y family in Menard County are buried in various cemeteries. One of the best resources to search online in this location is (Morgan Area Genealogical Association, MAGA) http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/index_men-cass.htmlPlease note on this site there are several choices for location- Menard and Sangamon county are frequently overlapping in information, or it is split between them because of shifting boundaries over the years. To the best of my knowledge, the Edward you mentioned is the brother of the William you mentioned. I am not sure of the relationship between Caroline and Franklin Wiseman, but considering the date, location and last name, they are likely related. Many of the first families married into each other in this area. Hope this helped:) Rajean

Re: William Yoakum,1879 History of Menard and Mason Counties
Do you know of any explaination as to why the biography of William Yoakum states his father is John and that his grandfather was Robert, but that it seems everyone is saying George and Martha Van Bebber are the grandparents? From the looks of the biography, with all the precise birth dates and such that it was written based on interviews with the subject. Was it do you know? Could William have gotten the name of his grandfather wrong?
