Hi,
I just found this new connection and would like to know more. Catherine Harness and George Yoakum/Yocum? had a daughter, Sarah. She married William Ford, and they are my g-g-g-g-g grandparents (I think). Any information you could give me on this line would be appreciated. Thanks! email: Krista3579@yahoo.com

I am also a descendant of Catherine Harness and George Yoakum through their son Michael. Have you looked at the links at http://incolor.inetnebr.com/gbrown/yoakum.html
Lots of good information there and the Yocum list connected with it has had some good discussions about the origin of the line in this country. Dr. Peter Craig seems to be the expert and has some good theories about their beginnings - with Matthis, I believe.

I ran across that page the other night with my search engine. Mentioned it to my uncle and he informed me that he had contributed a lot of data to it. My maiden name was Derryberry-Grandmother Balch, whose mother was a Wright, whose mother was a Yoachum, whose mother was a Hooper.

Hi Mark, I am so amazed you mentioned Yoakum Texas. I could never figure out which Yoak_ms I am related to. I do know that my gggg Grandfather helped build the railroad in Texas and that is how they named that town and if your side of the family is like mine, there is alot of them. My uncle in Bainbridge Ohio has told me many stories of the Yoakem split. I guess they changed their names to protect the innocent(ha) From what I hear they were a rowdy bunch in them days. Hope to talk sometime.

Hello,
I was born the daughter of Roy Yoakem. He was born in bainbridge Ohio, along with twelve siblings. A lot of them still reside there to this day. I haven't had to much contact with them since my fathers death in1990, however, I am heading that way in march, I'll ask about your relatives. I know they have reunions every year and send out flyers. My grandmothers name was Flossie.

Dottie,

I have heard my father (Ken Yoakum) talk about Uncle Roy a few times and I have heard of Flossie. My grandfather (James Robert Yoakum) was the last living of the siblings, he died almost 4 years ago.

The Yoakem/Yoakum Reunion is held every October at Long's retreat. I am sure that if you are visiting relatives in Bainbridge that they will be able to give you all the details. There is usually a good turn out.

Thanks for responding.

Ed

I am related to the Yoakum's thru the Husted, and Baker families. Some Yoakum names are: Stella,Flossie,Ray,Orville,Verga, and a J.R. Yoakum. A lot of surnames are mixed into the Ross and Pike Co. areas, Husted,Shoemaker,Kellough,Yoakum,Mick,Grubb and Baker to give a few. I'd be happy to share what I have on these families.

Hi Dottie,
I have also heard about the Yoakum split and like to know what it was about? As a little girl all I ever heard was their were 3 brothers that got kicked out of England and they got into a terrible fight and they all changed their names and said to never talk to a Yoakum that spells there name different. Have you also heard this?
